Hey guys,

My little guy keeps farting all the time. Is it normal? I am weaning him now trying to get him to eat solid foods. Could it be from the diet change? Also sometimes his tongue looks a little pale could that mean he needs water?

It is normal for kittens to do that with a change in diet. For that reason we recommend changing foods gradually - mixing the two for a while helps their systems to adjust slowly. As to his tongue, unless the change is very intense I would not worry too much. But if it suddenly goes white or deep red get him to a vet quickly - he could have a fever or be anemic, both dangerous for kittens. He should always have access to clean water, and you need to be sure he drinks plenty - that will also help his digestion.

Oh okay! Ive been givinf him formula 2 times a day still and give him wet food now. He likes the chunky kind so its hard for me to mix them. =_= he has an appointment next week. Ill ask to get his iron and stuff checked. =) thanks so much for answering!

Ahh! The chunky type, I would stop that immediately.

Pate canned food with formula in it, mushed up together. More formula than food, then graduate to thicker, then straight.

The gas means an overload for his digestive works, ie; the chunky food, which doesn't digest NEARLY as easily as the pate.

Also chicken or turkey pates are alot better than the fish ones.

My Panther and River used to like the Wellness and Fancy Feast Turkey pates! Maybe you want to try those!

You got good advices. I want to ask, has he been dewormed?

If not dewormed, he needs it, worms can also give such symptoms - optomal food or not.

Good luck!

Yes me too! He has stopped farting. I think he just needed to get used to his new diet. =)

Poppy [Popita] was gas powered when we brought her home, and it was weeks later after her rescue and hospital stay.

We found her on a trip with the mobile spay/neuter clinic, which was the first and only time we took the clinic outside the county.

Her right eyeball was literally hanging out and she had lacerations on her head and stomach. She was 10-12 weeks old.

She was up for adoption, even at Petsmart [they help us with adoption] for over a month, but we adopted her because

apparently no one wanted a 'damaged' kitten.

When we brought he home [geez, was she happy] she ran and ran, day and night, under-over-around the other cats,

downstairs, upstairs..........after being mangled as a baby, then living in a cage for 3 months.......but she would jump

on your lap, fart, then run some more. P...ewwwww!!

I think she believed she was giving us a 'gift'.

It took a few weeks, food change and environment change, then she stopped.

I think maybe the environment change can also contribute to the digestion disorders in some cats, causing  flatulence.
