Soren is very good about only using his scratching posts to scrarch on, but he won't stop digging in and pottying in the plant pots and he also has developed a cord chewing habit as of late. How can I get him to stop these things?

Also, I'm not sure when I should start trusting him out in the house. We have been shutting him in the bathroom at night and when we're not home.
I'd like to at least move him to our bedroom so he can sleep with us at night, but we have cords in the room... some of which cannot be put out of his reach since he goes behind things to pull the cords out.

Can you cover the soil in the pots with rocks to make it less attractive?     actually if he's been using it as a litter box,  you will probably need to repot because it will smell like pee , and he'll be attracted back.

Here are some old threads about this :

re the cords,  what about either bitter apple spray,  or here are some other tips  http://www.cableorganizer.com/articles/Ways-Protect-Wires-From-Cat-Dog.html

Thank you for the reply. I hadn't thought of the stones. That sounds like it would work well.

I removed the soil that he urinated and defecated on (I caught him in the act all of the times he has used the plant as a litterbox). Will I still need to repot the plant?

Where do you find bitter apple spray? I purchased "no chew" spray for cats from Petsmart a while back (I haven't tried it for Soren, but I got it for Akassa because she chews on plastic) and it didn't work at all for Akassa.

Yes, I have the pretty colored flat marble looking glass stones on the top of all my plants, no digging here! Plus they look very nice. Dollar stores :)

As for the cords, simply unplug them and run the plug through paper towel holders, as many as it takes to cover the exposed cord. It's also a great way to get them looking more organized, like behind my computer desk is a mad mess otherwise.

Of course as soon as he grows up a bit you can remove the ones that show, but not until he is in his late teenager age. Some will even continue, but most outgrow this habit by then.

Yes, the cardboard inners from paper towels.

Toilet paper ones work too but obviously would need many...!

Hmm.. well I suppose it shouldn't take long to get those. I have several family members that save paper towel and toilet paper rolls for me for my gerbils. Gerbils make the best cardboard recyclers. lol
