My name is ashly boss, i feed 30 feral homeless cats in a city about 15 minutes away from where i live in Oil Springs, Ontario, Canada.
The town is Petrolia and i came upon a herd of around 30 feral cats that dont have anyone to love them or care for them. The local shelter knows about the problem but told me to get the city to catch and probably euthanize them. (They are wary of humans from never having a loving pat on the head, so the shelter considers them unsuitable for adoption and thats why they would put them down.) Thats not right to me so i started dropping food off.
It got cold quick and they needed shelter so my friend and i built a shelter and when we dropped it off we saw someone else had also built two larger shelters and dropped them off as well. its good hearted people like them and you that can help these guys survive til spring. We also built a shelter for the common food area so the food doesnt blow away or get rained or snowed on.
But their water is freezing! I started a donation page so people can help me get the funds needed for a water bowl that doesnt freeze, and a solar panel that connects to a heater made for pets. (We plan to build one or two new shelters that have a cat door so the cold air stays out, and if that is accomplished then we can put water on the inside if we have to and that way it wont freeze)
On the page I provide links to the items i plan to purchase with the donations so people know and can see what their money is buying. I'm on disability myself but i spend every last extra dollar i have to ensure they have shelter and food, but as i live so far away i cant give them liquid water everyday.
My ultimate goal is to eventually set traps and neuter/spay them all, give them basic shots and set them free again. But for now, they need heat and water. Please help...If there were 30 hungry homeless people hiding behind chemical storage, something would be done, but because its animals, people dont care as much. If nothing is done, in less than 6 months there could be over 100 cats homeless and hungry, in the small town of Petrolia.
