Yep....all 3 are getting spayed/neutered next week.

What should I expect afterwards?  Do I need to keep the split apart?  I have a large dog crate that they slept in when they were tiny, I also have a couple of small carriers.  Do I need to use them until they heal?

And does anyone have any idea why their nails grow at different rates? I usually clip them all the same day while they're asleep, but a week later, one will have 3 or 4 nails that are SUPER long and sharp, while his others are short.

There isn't any need to do anything for the neuter.  That's isn't a invasive procedure.  With the spay it really depends on the cat.  I haven't had to do anything special for the cats that I have had spayed because they left the incision alone.  If they keep cleaning the incision then you will need to put a collar on.  Cats definitely don't like them but that's better than an infected or open incision.

I think the thing with the claws is just individual to the cat.  Just like people, some women keep long beautiful nails and others don't.

If the boys play too rough with the girl (boy/girls? I don't know how many of each :tongue2:), you'll have to keep them separated. Otherwise, don't worry about it. If they're still dopey when you pick them up, you might want to confine them until they're steadiier on their feet.

The boy(s) will be back to normal as soon as the anesthetic wears off, the girl(s) will be sore for a couple days (younger cats recover faster). Most cats don't mess with their stitches but if she does, you can put a tube sock or baby onesie one her so she can't do anything to her incision.

From my experience the excitement level of the boys will drop by a significant amount. It really is like night and day. They go from Attack..Attack..Attack..eat..sleep..Attack TO Attack....laayyyyy back and chill...Eat. Sleep..Attack.

The boys should be fine, they'll bounce back within a day. Your little girl will take longer and I agree, if the boys bother her too much keep her separate for a few days. She will most likely stay hidden and not move around much. A 'lump' at the incision site can be normal swelling from the inside, but watch for warmth or non-clear drainage, this could indicate an infection. Call your vet if you have any questions.

Thanks all.  I'm nervous.  They're my babies, and to have them all done at the same time is daunting.

I have 2 boys and 1 girl, all siblings that we've had since day 1.  We hand reared them (had a 4th one -- the runt--but he died of aspirated milk a week later).

I swear, the kittens sound like kids running around knocking things over.  RIght now, the girl sleeps in our daughter's room so there's no nightly nookie  LOL  THe boys are indeed rambunctious, and the girl is well....bitchy  LOL  She's sweet but not as affectionate as the boys, who are obsessive droolers/purrers when they're in the mood.

Leo is a total daddy's boy.  He will always seek him out and sleep in his arms for an hour or so everyday.  The other one, blue, is more momma's boy.   I hope the boys stay the same sweet things.  The girl is no doubt just like our daughter...moody as all hell.  Hormones probably  hehehee.

Anyway, counting down!!  4 more days!!!

The babies are at the vets!  Can't wait to get them this afternoon. I had them microchip them as well.

Good job!!  Hope they all do well with their surgeries and recovery time is minimal.

Boys are back at full play. We have kept the girl isolated. But she is fine.

She is licking her surgery spot... bitter spray hasn't worked. We may have to put her in an ecollar. But it looks fine.

Can the boys lick themselves or should I stop it too? They haven't been obsessing. Just caught them a couple of times.

They can lick the incision for normal cleaning. You only have to interfere if they get overzealous about it. Doesn't happen very often. Many vets don't even use stitches for males so there's not a lot of damage they could do to themselves, except maybe lick themselves raw (again, rare).

All very useful info :)  I was worried because Jack was licking her incision area, but not obsessing over it.  It's healing quite nicely.  And the boys are actually pocking their bid'ness more often than before  LOL  Licking themselves, as if they're making sure that the vet didn't cut off more than just their balls  LOL!!!

At this point, though, the threat of pregnancy in Jack is no longer possible, even if the hormones are still present, right? They are all back to normal, playing normally, but not quite as aggressive as before, at least not that I've noticed.
