A few days ago, my very energetic 5 month old cat, slept all day. When I tried to play with him, he just fell asleep. The next morning, I grabbed him and he yelped. After that, he limps. I took him to the vet and the vet gave me pain medication and said he didn't think it was broken. He said he didn't know why he slept the day before. He said he had barely a fever and it was nothing to worry about. After three days, he is still limping pretty bad. He won't let me move his leg. I checked all his paws and foot. He does not care if I touch his foot. He gets really upset when I push foot toward his body. If I move his hip or knee, he cries. When he limps, he barely touches the ground. He doesn't mind laying on the leg but will not use the limb. His leg isn't worse after 4 days, it just isn't improving. He is still eating but not eating as much as he usually does. Does anyone have ideas what is wrong? I am taking him to the vet tomorrow but I am so worried about my kitten.

This kitten needs to have some x-rays done. This is the only way to rule out a fracture.

Keep him as quiet as possible (do not encourage play) and just keep him as comfortable as possible. Put his litter box and food/water close by so that he does not have to go far to reach either.

If your vet still says this is nothing to worry about, you need to get a second opinion ASAP.

Thank you! By the ways it sounds, does it sound like he needs surgery?

There is no way to know whether surgery is needed or not without x-rays and a proper diagnosis.

I have seen several cats with fractures/breaks that did not need surgery (just casting and cage rest.)

I have also had cats that had bad soft-tissue injuries/sprains and these also just require rest and medication.

Sending good vibes for your little furbaby! Let us know what you find out at the vet tomorrow. I would not leave without x-rays being done. You can also take the x-rays to someone else for a second opinion if needed/wanted.

Definitely ask the vet for xrays it could be broken.  As mentioned above sometimes they need surgery depending on the location and severity of the break, sometimes they heal with a cast and confinement.

Thank you I will. I don't know if this changes anything but I see that most of his swelling is on top of his foot near his ankle and on the front side of his leg near the ankle.
