Hi all-
So I'm going through a second bout of Hepatitic Lipidosis with my girl, Fendi. The first time around was scary but she bounced back in a week and we had her tube out in just over a month. This time, we caught it really quick but she's not responding as quickly. She's been really nauseous and not keeping too much down. You can imagine how upsetting this has been. Our vet prescribed cerenia and I gave her the first dose today. An hour later I fed her and then she slept. About an hour and a half later she got up used the litter box and on the way back vomited. It wasn't a lot at all but my questions is, is the cerenia something that works better after a while? Should I expect more vomiting or should it start subsiding?
Thanks, I've been such a mess this time around. Last time everyday she made progress. This time she just seems so down & out and I'm a mess because we're doing everything we can and she seems the same.
Anyway, thanks in advance for your responses.

Does she have a feeding tube in?  I remember when my cat had it he was hospitalized almost a week while they worked him up to full feedings.  Even with that there were a couple of feedings that I cut short because he started gagging.  I think there is probably only so much cerenia can do with something like hepatic lipidosis.

Do you know why she quits eating?  I wouldn't be surprised if it takes her longer to come around the second time.  I know, even though my cat's enzymes look good, my vet considers him to have liver damage because of the hepatic lipidosis.

Hi Denice-
She does have a feeding tube in so we're able to ge the food in. She's had it in for a week tomorrow but on Sunday she started having a lot of nausea. The vet said it was due to excess stomach acid so we tried the Pepcid ac starting yesterday but that hasn't really worked.
The first time she had it. We chalked it up to a change in food however, the vet think that it might a food allergy that's the culprit.

I think pepcid is really hit or miss.  I know a lot of people here have had good luck with it helping their cats, it never really seemed to help Patches much.  There really isn't much you can do but keep up with the feedings until she starts to come out of this.

I never thought a lot of the prescription hypoallergenic foods but it might be worth a try.  I don't know if there are any in a smooth pate type canned food but if there is you might try that.

Yes, that's what we're doing. Just trying to keep up with the feedings and be positive.
Our vet said once she starts eating on her own we can try the hypoallergenic food. Right now were on the Hills A/D.
By the way, how's your Patches doing now?

Patches is doing fine.  He had this 3 years ago.  He now gets a small daily dose of a steroid for IBD.  He was on the Hills A/D while he had the feeding tube in.

My vet prescribed cerenia for when we move 500 miles away. It's next week, so I haven't given it yet, but she said one dose should be enough for my carsick baby. She vomits/has diarrhea for the first hour of most car trips.

Oh wow! That will be some road trip! Well, I hope the cerenia works for you.
I don't want to jinx it but she hasn't thrown up since her last meal...yay! Usually by now she would've vomited.
Williecat- there are some side effects so be aware. My Fendi has had the excessive drooling and she's been moaning/snoring a bit while she sleeps. Also, it's made her pretty lethargic but I will say she seems more comfortable for sure!
