Makes me sad, especially knowing Si has now been exposed to it too

Sunday was the day we brought our new 4mo kitten Monty home.  There was nothing out of the ordinary during all our interaction at the shelter & once we felt he was "the one" we played with him a lot, listening to him purr & whir at us.  Never a sneeze.  And of course we hand sanitized ourselves coming & going from the adult to the teen room, etc.

Monday he sneezed once during the morning & we wondered if it may just be everything new.  New bed, new home, new allergins, etc.  No goopy eyes or anything like that.   But he sneezed a couple more times during the evening.  I listened very closely while he was sleeping & there are no raspy or congestive type sounds.  Just a little sneeze & a tiny bit of runny nose.  Again clear, not colored runny.   He didn't eat as much as he did Sunday, and in fact, threw up a little bit & had a little diarrhea that followed in the evening.   But he played just as hard as any other 4mo kitten would throughout the day & evening.

He has had all of his age appropriate vaccines and wormers but it's apparent, no matter how much he is playing & napping like normal, that something is going on that we'll address at 2pm today with our vet.

Just hate to think my main man may be next.  Hopefully if it's antibiotics I can bring home more for Si too without having to make another visit.

URI's are very common in rescue cats and usually no big deal/not requiring antibiotics.  I wouldn't stress too much about it unless the vet tells you to

I am very glad you were able to get an appointment! Please let s know how everything goes and congrats on your new addition!

And the other cat can easily catch it so I would urge separation and hand washing until its resolved.  Many vets will prescribe antibiotics because they're concerned about secondary bacterial infections taking hold.  The other concern is loss of appetite which often happens when a cat is feeling poorly or can't smell his food due to congestion.  Discuss with the vet!

We're back with liquid Clamavox in hand.  Our vet said it was, as you all have mentioned, very common in shelter and rescue cats to have a kitty cold.  She said it was a very mild case & the Clamavox should nip it in the bud soon.  He had no colored discharge for either eyes, nor nose, so she saw that as a very good sign.  We were a bit concerned also about the little bout of diarrhea that he had on the day we brought him home but she very much attributed that to the whole shock of being adopted, car ride, new home, new people, etc.   And hopefully the antibiotic won't cause another round of it.

She did state that based on Si's age and his background as being a stray that long ago he was probably exposed to it & has good enough antibodies we may see nothing.  But of course, we will keep a keen eye on him especially until Monty is fully rid of his cold.

Awww poor little Monty.  Hopefully he will heal easily with the Clavamox.  URI's are quite common from shelter cats.

Thank you cprcheetah.  You could not tell he has any issues outside of the occasional sneeze that worried us straight to the vet.  He is eating good and playing hard with his new big brother right now
