Acid Reflux/Kidney Disease?

We rushed our 10 year old American Shorthair Humphrey to the vet yesterday after vomiting for all of his food up for a day and a half. We thought it may have been a Hairball, but after being rehydrated and given some anti nausea medicine, the vet seems to think that Humphrey should be ok. Blood tests showed kidney trouble. The vet said that could be from the dehydration. True or False ... Is this a sign of Acid Reflux or Kidney disease OR some other underlying issue ?

I would get the blood test reran when she isn't dehydrated.  It is true that dehydration will throw the blood test results off but kitties with kidney disease also tend to have problems with too much stomach acid.  Getting the tests reran would be the best way to know for sure about her kidneys.

Thank you Denice. We are scheduled to pick up Humphrey today from the Emergency Vet Hospital and we are going to get a second  opinion from our Vet on his kidney function and condition... On another note. When he pees he pees a good quantity of fluid each time he goes... Will we see a change in the frequency or the amount of pee if he has kidney issues ?

Yes he will.   Don't get the cart before the horse though, wait and see what his blood test shows when he isn't dehydrated.

the throwing up his food for a day and a half is not a sign of kidney disease.  Cats with kidney disease normally throw up froth, which is caused by too much stomach acid on an empty stomach.  This is why so many kidney cats take Pepcid A/C
.

But as Denice mentioned, no need to start worrying until you get a firm diagnosis (or hopefully NOT) from your regular Vet.

Well we brought the little guy home and he is a little bit more quite now then before... The Dr gave him a prescription for Cerinia an Anti-Nausea med and some Famotidine. He has held down all his food now for 24 hours and slept a lot. He has pee in his box but no poop yet.  That is a concern. Well I hope all gets back to normal soon... Thanks To All.

Weren't you going to take him to your regular Vet for a blood test once he was rehydrated to see how things stood?  Did you do that?   He needs an overall exam to determine what is going on.  If this is recurring already, something is not right.  It could be IBD
.  What are you feeding him?

I hope Humphrey is doing OK. Does he tend to drink a lot? Is there any chance he ate something he wasn't supposed to? Just wondering what could lead to a relapse of the vomiting.

When he threw up was it food, bile, or something else? Did he throw up just after eating or had it been awhile since his last meal? How has his litter box habits been, has he been peeing more than usual or is the amount the same as it has been.

As suggested it could be ibd, my mother's cat was diagnosed with that a couple of months ago, this was something that she did not have when younger. When you are able to definitly get another blood test done to make sure that the kidneys are okay. Dehydration can skew numbers so checking once your cat is hydrated is a good idea, that way you can figure out if you are dealing with early kidney issues or if there is something else going on.
