I love Christmas markets, but this year is the first time I have actually taken stalls at any of them. My friend (Milkmaid here) and I decided we would try and make some specifically Christmas things and sell them, plus the stuff we already sell at summer markets. And so far it has been quite a success. We do prefer the ones indoors, though. Below you can see me freezing in the cold at an outdoor one and relaxed and happy inside a community hall for another! The wreaths in the second picture are made from scrap fabrics cut into little squares, and have been very popular.

We went to Christmas markets when we were stationed in Germany.  We never went to the one in Nuremberg which I guess is the most famous one.  The ones we went to were like what we call festivals here in the States.  There were places selling food and drinks and there were rides for the kids.

Here almost every village of any size has a Christmas market, where you can buy home-made produce, food and drinks, and crafty things, especially of course Christmas ornaments. Each weekend there is a different one in the vicinity. There is often a Santa Claus plus photographer, horse and carriage rides and a nativity, often with real people. Even if I sell nothing (which hasn't happened yet) it is great fun to be part of the atmosphere. The one last week had THREE stalls all selling hand-made chocolates - that was a challenge.

That looks like a lot of fun!  Maybe less fun in the freezing part!

I love to shop at a craft fair here every fall.  There are always lots of Christmas things.  One year it was super cold.  A lady was selling hand warmers made from dried corn.  She had a microwave to warm them up.  People were buying those like crazy!
She had bigger ones too; to use as heat packs for other things.  But those hand warmers were perfect!

I would love to visit your market! It looks like a lovely place!

We do go to some of the craft shows around here. There's a craft guild that sponsors one of the craft shows down in the Reading, PA area, at the Berks County PennState campus....you have to be a member of a guild in order to have a stall and we can find some truly gorgeous things there. We've gotten some beautiful cat ornaments for the Christmas trees at that one.  We always look forward to that market. We're on their mailing list, so they send us a postcard to let us know the date.
