Zorro is my 10 month old male cat that has been desexed and vaccinated, is treated for flea prevention with frontline plus, is dewormed every month and lives 50/50 inside/outside. He eats a 50/50 mix of wet and dry food.

Now for the background info out of the way...

Over the past 2 months he has developed around 6-7 little, roundish, scabby DRY sores, probably the size of a matchhead, with a tiny bit of matted fur by puss right in the middle of the sore.

I just cant find a fresh sore thats bloody or pussy, only dry ones.

The oldest ones seem to be causing  absolutely no pain even when touched, pulled and prodded, in fact even the newest couple seem to be not painful at all, and he allows me to touch them.

i will be taking him to the vet soon but untill then can anyone recognize what this is?

Ill take some photos tonight when he comes inside and goes into a sleep coma, he wont sit still enough to let me take them atm

Other than that he is everything as per normal, eating, drinking, sleeping, playing and that other business they do is fine.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat!

No one can tell you what this is, but having said that, whenever there are small roundish scabby sores with hair loss over the sore, one has to suspect ringworm, a skin fungus.  Until you know, touching these sores is not a good idea as RW is contagious to humans, and you would want to wash your hands thoroughly after doing this, and avoid it moving forward until there is a diagnosis.  Please contact your vet. Whether its RW, or something else, it needs to be looked at, and if it is RW, it needs prompt treatment so no other animals in your hoe (if there are any) nor you contract it.

WIshing you good luck, let us know what you fins out ok!

Oh damn I've been looking and torching/examining these things since i first noticed them and haven't been washing my hands after, theres no signs of it on me yet - maybe this means it aint ringworm(i know thats stretching it a bit but i thought id throw it out there).

Also is ringworm itchy or painful? Because by all observations they are definitely not itchy and theres no visible signs of them being painful.

Could he have an allergy to the odd flea bite?

Anyways please add anymore ideas and he will be going to the vet in the next couple of days.

It could be a lot o different things cats get something called Miliary Dermatitis which is a skin response to an allergen generally, it could be fleas it could be food, it could be environmental.  It could also be something immune mediated.   I would suggest a vet visit to get to the bottom of what is going on with your kitty.

Ringworm can be itchy, but isn't always so, and isn't painful.  No one online can tell you if its ringworm or not - there are all sorts of various explanations, but only a vet can help you make this determination.  A Vet can do a woods lamp check and a culture of the sore to see if its ringworm, and it could easily be something else.
