Hello everyone,

I had my cat Kaya's perch was sitting dangerously closely to the edge of the four step stairs near our front door in order to open the door widely, I quickly went to grab my groceries and came back inside, only to find the perch at the bottom of the steps, and my cat far away from the accident, putting the pieces together she obviously tried to jump on it.

A few minutes later I see her limping towards me, her back left leg was the injury, she wasn't meowing (shes very vocal) and she was able to jump down from my lap, and didn't mind me petting her back leg gently. I'm thinking about bringing her to the vet tomorrow, I am very nervous.  Any advice ?

Thank you.

Poor Kitty, definitely sounds like a vet visit is in order.  In the meet  time I would keep her quiet as you can to avoid further injury.

Just remembered, it's Sunday tomorrow, do you think waiting until Monday would be okay or would an emergency visit be necessary?

If there is no obvious swelling, bleeding, and she doesn't seem to be in pain, waiting until Monday should be fine. Check her toes to see if perhaps she injured a toenail or the pad of her foot.

Keep her quite tonight and play it by ear. If she is worse tomorrow then call your vet (most have an emergency number).

She's doing better, the trip up the stairs seem to be easier for her, and she was able to jump up her perch. Our preferred doctor wasn't available today, and since Kaya is very aggressive with people she doesn't know, that doctor is able to handle her, so she said to observe her for another 24 hours. Thank you for your concern!

Hi Britton !

These kinds of injuries - in humans too - heal faster and leave no lasting damage when they're allowed to heal with enforced rest/"confinement".

Would you be able to restrict her to one small area where she wouldn't have these exercise opportunities....perhaps a single room?
