My computer was down for a couple weeks and I could rarely get here on my cell phone (crappy cell service). But now I'm back! My computer has been reformatted and now I have to install stuff again. PITA but oh well!  I'm so excited!!

Welcome home:-)   I had a panic last last weekend when I thought I was going to be out of action for a couple of days.
The thought of that was bad enough!  2 weeks.  Wow, full on withdrawl.  Well done for surviving.   Have fun posting and catching up.

I wasn't able to view my bills online and I don't get paper copies.  I was able to do banking from my computer at work, but haven't been able to access email.  Still can't. I can't seem to get Window's Live to install. I don't feel like fiddling with it today, I might call the cable company sometime next week in the evening and get them to help me.

You know, I've been wondering where you were....I noticed you were gone. Glad it was your computer and not anything serious with you.

Thanks!

I had a computer virus! My first one ever and I've had a computer for about 14 years. It was completely my fault!

A few weeks ago UPS left a message on my answering machine about a parcel for me. They said I could pick it up at their store. But they didn't say which store, and they didn't leave a delivery slip.  Because I didn't have a tracking number or  know who it was from, where it was coming from, or the size of the parcel being delivered, UPS told me that they couldn't help me.

The next day or the day after that, I got an email from a delivery company (not UPS)  saying that they had attempted to deliver a parcel to me and that my pick up slip is attached. I'm always suspicious of companies I don't know sending me email with attachments. So I did lots of checking first.

I  remembered that I had won an ebay auction and the parcel was coming from the USA. I checked the seller's email to me, and saw that  the parcel was sent by "PItney Bows"  (the company that makes those postage machines). And they use UPS to ship to Canada.  I checked some more, and that email seemed to be legit.

So I took a chance and "downloaded the pick up slip", and BAM!  some kind of computer virus. I couldn't open websites, email, nothing, and I was getting a pop up from some virus scanner telling me that I needed to to a critical virus scan. In the meantime my own virus scanner was going crazy warning me about  this virus!

It was completely my fault.  And any other time I would never, ever have even entertained the thought of opening that email, and the only reason I did is because I had the weird UPS delivery with no delivery slip, followed by the email indicating that a parcel delivery had been attempted.

I could have fixed it myself if I had been able to get my computer into safe mode, but it turns out that my monitor wasn't connected to my good graphic card that I bought, it was connected to the onboard one, which didn't allow for the viewing of the safe mode screen (which I didn't know about until today). I called in a tech and he fixed it for me. Unfortunately he didn't realize the graphic/monitor thing. Had he he said he would have removed the virus instead of trying to reformat when he found he couldn't get into safe mode either.   Anyway, he connected it up properly so I have much better screen resolution.

I can't believe I had a computer virus!  lol

I didn't worry about lost files. Last year when my other computer crashed, I lost about hundreds of gigs of material. So I'm pretty numb to losing files now.

I have a ton to catch up on in the forums!   I tried to come here using my Cell Phone, but my cell service with my phone company is awful!  I rarely have signal outside my house or unless connected to someone's wifi, phone calls are dropped in in the heart of downtown.  I did manage to post a couple of times, but it's hard from my phone and slow!

I did miss this place!!!

I can honestly say that I missed you, too. Like I said, I knew you were gone, but didn't know how to find out if you were OK! Your computer can be fixed.

I wondered where you were. I remember that story about how you dislike UPS. Sucks that it turned out to be a virus. >.<

Oh boy!  Don't worry; I accidentally let my husband throw out a computer that I had not backed up all our photos on.  Photos from when DD was a baby.  I cried.  A Lot.

Glad you are back in action here now!  I felt silly for how excited I got when I found out I had internet access at my Grandparent's on our last trip up.  Usually it's 5-9 days of nothing up there!

That UPS delivery was actually legit.  It took me over a week to figure out that it was my new pressure cooker lid.

Now I have another reason to hate UPS.  I"m expecting a Roger's Sim card.  I asked that it be shipped Canada Post because I've had problems with UPS.  It was shipped Nov 22nd. I still haven't received it. I called today.  Turns out they shipped it by UPS. Again, no delivery slip. No phone call. Nothing.  I found out today that UPS returned it to Roger's because I failed to pick it up!

Roger's is sending it out by Express Post through Canada Post. I guess now they believe me when I tell them that I have problems with UPS!  lol

And I'm getting a full month's credit from Roger's because it's taken so long to get me my Sim card.
