I've been looking to add another fountain and this one looks very nice.  I'm on well water and disinfection seems like a good strategy.  Does anyone here use this brand???

I don't know anything about this fountain or the whole UV purification thing. If it truly uses UV light to purify the water, I wonder if it's a concern for pets to be exposed to the UV light over an extended period of time.
At a quick glance, one reviewer claims that the light makes the water warmer than room temp  and has to add ice. It's an interesting design. For me, cleaning it has to be super simple. The first fountain I ever bought for my cats was a royal PITA to clean. Lesson learned. I recently upgraded and just posted about it here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/269635/cats-love-their-new-shiny-water-fountain

Take the time to read the reviews on various retailer websites and see what others have to say.

UV is certainly a much better disinfectant than any chemical without the health risks,  The light is contained inside, no exposure. Thanks for the input. Yes, cleaning is the thing since many of my kitties like to play in thier water.  I will do some more research and take a look at the one you just.  I don't trust the reviews on retailers sites.  I trust the people here way more.

Well, of course!

I recently started using purified (reverse osmosis) water as their water source, and I put this in their fountain. I buy it by the gallon jug. It was recommended to be by other TCS members and also a holistic vet. I really don't think the carbon filters do much, and all three of my cats with health issues seem to do better on the purified water. If cost isn't a concern, you could consider this and then you would get whatever fountain you want.

I recently purchased a stainless steel water fountain (after being reminded of this product through GoHolistic`s post) but was also concerned about using well water which I am on. I plan to use the water I get locally (reverse osmosis) - We have great (but very hard) well water that we dont soften but Ive never liked the taste of it. For calcium buildup, I use vinegar and baking soda in my tea kettle and on bathtub fixtures and will try this to clean the water fountain. The vinegar is natural and works great to remove calcium buildup. An option you might want consider.

Hi Moldee,

I get the reverse osmosis water from a dispensing machine at my local garden market but I would imagine that whole foods and health food stores would also have this. You could also try googling reverse osmosis and your location to see what is in your area. If unsuccessful, I think spring water would do as well.

Where do you buy reverse osmosis water?
From my local grocery store, I buy gallon jugs labeled "Purified Water." In small print on the label, it says that the water is purified using reverse osmosis.

Spring water is different, and if it is labeled "Drinking Water" this may be different, too. So check the label.

I used to get spring water in bulk from a source which was reliable, but as this is now sold in stores you can't be sure of the source. This would apply to any bottled product I would think so its always a good idea to check labels as GoHolistic suggests and/or ask the store where they get their water from.

If your well water is safe for you to drink, it's safe for your cat.  We usually use our own spring but when we had to change to our well water , which is "red," I bought either spring water or distilled for the fountain so it didn't get stained.

I don't know about the UV thing.
