Visited Grandmother today and was shocked.

She has a beautiful white cat, quite chubby. However, today I noticed not only had he lost a lot of weight. His nose has these dark black scabs (see below pic), gums are also a little scabby and he is quite noticeably struggling to breathe. Not alarmingly so, but noticeable.

Any ideas? Vet appointment booked for the morning.

Poor baby!  I really have no words of help, but am glad he's going to the vet.

I'm glad you're taking him to the vet because breathing problems can indicate problems with the heart - that's what I'm dealing with right now. I'm not sure about those scabs. Keep us posted and hope everything can be fixed up.

He looks very sweet and I am very sorry you have gone round and found him unwell.  It is good he has a vet appointment in the morning.  I hope the vet can tell you what is wrong and do something to ease his breathing and get him more comfortable.

Are you taking him along to the vet or will that be someone else?  Fingers crossed for you and your Grandmother that you get quick answers and see him looking happier again.

Glad to hear he is going to the vet.  Breathing problems can be quite serious.  Is he an indoor or outdoor cat?  I had an outdoor cat who was white who got sunburnt on his nose.  He eventually got skin cancer from it.  (Note....now all my cats are strictly indoors.)
