Our friends from Ft Lauderdale, who we hadn't seen in around 15 years, visited yesterday with their dog. Angel's eyes doubled in size (and her eyes are enormous to start with), Tippy watched the dog from a safe distance, and of course my Captain Courageous - Tony - retreated to the safety of under the bed where he stayed for most of the afternoon. No confrontations, just lots of staring. And of course the dog had her own food but decided to try the cat food. In retailiation, Angel tried the dog food. Now if she starts to bark I'll have something to worry about. But it was a great visit, lots of reminiscing. Our frend (the wife) is battling cancer for the last 5 years, she is back on chemo now,a nd we just pray for a positive outcome. She's got a good attitude and I'm sure that goes a long way.

That sounds like a very positive dog visit!
Poor Angel and those big eyes, it is lucky she kept them in her head they sound so wide open.  Good that all was quiet and your cats got to maintain the distances they chose for themselves.  Naughty dog steeling food, it is quite right that revenge was taken.  I don't think you need to worry too much about barking unless your friend's dog was barking while staying with you: your cats may have decided to learn a new language and copy it for fun.

Always good to catch up with friends and see how they are doing, especially when anyone is unwell.  Good friends, sharing memories, and plenty of laughter are wonderful remedies for all kinds of ailments.

Sounds like it all went well, Lana.

The first time our kids saw a dog, BooBoo jumped to the top of the kitchen cabinets and stayed there the entire time, keeping a wary eye on the dog (it was Ebony, my parents' black cocker spaniel). Banshee walked right over to Ebbie and smacked her on the nose....she and Ebbie grew up together from me taking Banshee with me to Mom's house during the day. But this was the first time Ebbie was in her house and Banshee wasn't amused. The other cats ran back to the bedroom and stayed there.

We didn't have a lot of dogs in the house. Ebony was here quite a bit, and when Rick's parents got Jackie, the beagle, they started bringing her here, too. Banshee didn't care about Jackie until Jackie tried to lay down on the kitty couch. That didn't go over well....evidently, no dog  was allowed on the couch because Banshee shooed her off. (Banshee really was the Queen of the house! And she had to qualms about letting us all know it.)

Mollipop doesn't care one way or the other. Jackie comes to visit and Molli says, "Darn dogs anyway" and let's it go at that.
