I got mine at J.B. Robinson 35 years ago for 800.00 and its still hanging in there. My husband wants to get new ones but I feel that if we keep our old ones on the rings will mean alot more .
Ours are 33 years old and we got them from a jewellery store called F. Hinds. Mine is 18ct white gold and is etched with a pattern all the way round and cost £57, hubby's is 9ct yellow gold and cost £60.
We don't wear them. Rick lost his ring so many years ago that we've given up hope of ever finding it. I have mine, but don't wear it either. I used to work in a paper plant and we weren't allowed to wear any jewelry and that has just stuck with me, I guess.....I still don't wear much jewelry at all, other than my watch and earrings. Rick still works in an environment like that, so he wouldn't be able to wear one. I suppose we could get new bands, but it's not that big of a deal to either one of us. We'll be married 43 years in April.
Well, my first ex got that ring from his dad, that was a jeweler - he found the stones and then he found a setting in a jewelers catalog and had it done via his dad. My 2nd ex found it in the diamond district in NYC. One of those clandestine places that nobody knows about, that someone recommended to us. That was a learning experience, dealing with the gem dealer directly. Really interesting.
Of course, both rings are for naught now. The first one, I had the stone simply set as a necklace. The 2nd ring, sits in my jewelry box. I keep meaning to have it made into something else, but haven't gotten around to it.
My Dad gave me my mom's wedding ring set (she passed away several years before I married). We found a set at a small independent jewelry store where my husband lived at the time. The jeweler took the diamond from my mom's engagement ring and set it into the set we liked. I figure that ring stayed on her finger for 43 years, it was good enough for me. I've been wearing it now for 13 years.
Every now and then we have to do things we don't want too. My husband put his wedding ring in PAWN and lost so we have saved up enough to get him another one engraved with the day we got married. I hope we can find the same one at J.B.Robinson where we got our rings 35 years ago. I know it won't be the same but at least others will know he is taken.
Actually I won the set when I was a kid. . Just this year, I had to have some repairs done to the setting. My husband said let's retire it. He told me pick what I want. I found a wonderful diamond set on Ebay. It was soldered together which is good as that keeps the gold from wearing when they rub on each other. We paid just under five hundred and it has been appraised for much more than that.
