We just brought our new kitten home today.  She is 4 months old.  Everytime she goes to use the litter box she seems to cry.  What should I do?  I'll call the shelter tomorrow to see if I should change the litter.  We also have to schedule an appointment with the vet to have her checked out.  She seems to be acting normal otherwise, playing, eating a little and she did take a small drink of water.

Keep an eye on her.  She might just be "announcing" her intentions.  She may also not like the litter you have for her.  Is it the same they were using at the shelter?

I thought of that too.  I didn't think to ask them what kind of litter they were using.  I'm calling tomorrow anyway, she seems to be congested so we're asking about that and to see the vet there and I;m going to ask about the litter.  Thanks.

Does she cry out before and after using the litter box or is it during? My 3 month old boys use to let me know their intentions when I first brought them home about a month ago. Now the silly boys tend to wait until I am scooping the boxes and usually will hop in to do their business.

I agree with Stephanietx about keeping an eye on her incase it is more then just vocalizing what she is about to do.
