Cats are geared toward eating smaller, more frequent meals. That also helps regulate urine pH. Most cats do well on meals 3 times a day. A before work, after work, before bed schedule works for most people. You probably don't need to feed more, just more frequently. You can just divide that can into 2 or 3 portions instead of 1.

First welcome to TCS

When you say one can, do you mean a 5.5 or 6 ounce can or one of the smaller 3 ounce cans?  If only 3 ounces, that would be too little food.  One larger can should be sufficient, especially for an inactive older cat.  I believe the recommendation is up to 8 ounces, but I have personally found that both of mine do fine on about 6 ounces a day of wet food when I only use that, since it is nutritionally healthier than dry.

I would also try feeding him in 2 or 3 feedings which would be more akin to how he would eat if left to his own devices.  Is there a reason why you only do this once a day?

Thank you for the welcome :)

Oh i feed him the larger 6 ounce cans and he gobbles it right up LoL he loves cheese...and really only because he has to eat in a room by himself so my other cats don't take it from him, he is not the least bit assertive and will just run away and go hungry rather than fight for what is his, so i wait until i come home so he isn't trapped in the bathroom all day, although i suspect he may enjoy the peace and quiet once in a while lol

Ok, that's good he's eating the larger can.

I'm assuming he gobbles it up because by the time you arrive home, he is literally starving.  Are you able to manage to give him a quick bite before you leave in the morning?  If he eats that quickly, having him in whatever room you feed him in for a few minutes really shouldn't  be too difficult to achieve.

BTW, a lot of cats like cheese but it isn't very good to feed them too frequently.  It should be only used as an infrequent treat if your cat has no lactose intolerance issues (many do).  There are much better types of treats you can give him, like freeze dried chicken and liver pieces which would also bump up his protein intake.  Very few calories, the kind of treat they go nuts for, but is good for them too.

PureBites is the brand I use, and so do a lot of others here.  Mine really love the chicken especially.  They also have dried ocean whitefish and mini shrimp, but I try and stay away from seafood for them.  I also found freeze dried turkey this past week, which I had never seen before but it's a different brand, I don't remember the name off hand.

Orijen also makes a great line of them, in flavors like boar, venison and lamb.  They are marketed for dogs, but are appropriate for cats, you just have to break them apart.  I also found the PureBites for dogs which are larger pieces, it was better value for the money - I break those up also.

Another brand had freeze dried lamb lungs and they went bonkers for that - again, tho, can't remember who makes that one either but you can easily find similar items in any good pet store, not usually the big box stores.
