My vet's negligence resulted in a hernia after her spay!

I have two twin kittens, both female, both spayed at the same time. One of the two, Pinkie Pie, developed a hernia a few months after the surgery. The hernia was pretty small at first but as it got bigger, my concerns grew. Last week I went in the Banfield and scheduled an appointment for them to do a check up and see how much it would cost for hernia repair. I expressed my concern that I believed the muscle wall was not sutured properly resulting in a weakness and eventually a tear. My vet told me that I had no proof that that's what happened. After much arguing the owner agreed to pay half and I would pay the other half. Why should I pay for a surgery because of their neglect?! They were originally going to charge me over $600 for the repair but I was able to get them to reduce it to $226. Pinkie Pie never had a hernia before the spay and if there was a tear they are required to tell me and repair it at my request. I have contacted Corporate Banfield and hopefully we can get this resolved.

Pinkie Pie is in her surgery room as we speak, please pray for a safe and quick recovery.

Good vibes for Pinkie Pie.
She looks like a twin to one of my previous girls, Pal when she was young.  Beautiful face markings and expression.  I hope her surgery has gone well and you have her home with you, if not now then very soon.

Post surgical hernias can occur although they aren't super common it can happen just like it can happen in humans.  My dad had to have a hernia repaired after he had surgery for a hernia go figure.  I hope your kitty is doing okay after surgery.

With an answer like 'you can't prove it' sound a bit iffy to me.
Maybe this vet needs checking. I hope baby will be n100% ok.

*UPDATE*

Pinkie Pie is doing wonderful, she is off her meds and excited to get back to playing. After contacting Corporate at Banfield they reduced my payment to $166. They told me they had made an incision too close to her naval and since it was already thin muscle that it began to tear after her spay. She didn't have any organs protruding luckily, just a little fat. (she's nearly 10lbs at a little over a year old, not surprising)

Thank you all for the good vibes and prayers!

I'm also glad she's doing so well but I don't understand why you should have to pay anything as it was the vet's fault. Could you explain that please?

Great news that Pinkie Pie is healing well and making a good recovery.  Back to playing is always a good sign.
Shame they didn't wave the whole bill but I have nothing to go on for that, no experience.

Just the fact that they told her they cut too near to the naval is already an admittance of guilt so why on earth should she have to pay for their mistake. They should pay her for all the worry they put her through. As far as I'm concerned it's a bloody rip off.
