I was having trouble thinking of a QotD, until I wrote today's date in the title. December 5th is the one year anniversary of my Thyroid Surgery. I had my Thyroids removed last year, 12.5.12 due to Thyroid Cancer. It's hard not to reflect back and think of everything that I went through, how I felt and all the support I've received from friends and family, even here.

My question is.. Have you ever had any sort of surgery?

I remember you going through the surgery and being worried about your furkids.

Tubes tied at 19, complete hysterectomy when I was 24, gall bladder removed at 52, and surgery on meniscus tear at knee when I was 55.

That's it....not too bad, really.

Had a ganglion cyst on the ball of my foot back in the 80's, They removed it and I had to learn to walk again. Yuck. I still remember that was tough.

Tonsils, gall bladder, lower leg (to drain infection following accident), and removal of excess tissue from my lower abdomen.

Two hysteroscopies/D&C's, the last one included neurectomies and a lining sewn in to stop some of the growth. Eventually I will have a hysterectomy.

My mother had thyroid cancer at my age and I've been having some throat issues. Naturally I'm concerned, so I have an appointment with my general doc next Wednesday. I'm suspecting GERD and complications of it, actually. But, we'll see! It does no good to fret now.

I had a c-section in 2012 and then I had my gall bladder removed in June of this year. I'm hoping to not have any more surgeries for a long time, aside from probably another c-section when we have baby #2 (which is not even in the plans yet).

Sure did - Four major surgeries from the ages of babyhood to preteen. And there were other multiple times where I had to go under for tests. Definitely spent a good chunk of life in the hospital!

I was born with kidney disease(s) - Severe hydronephrosis, and on top of that, was also born with four kidneys. But, three of those kidneys didn't work. After those surgeries to fix a wide variety of problems, from removal to reinplantation of ureters, I now have one full kidney and half of one left
 still have the hydronephrosis.

It is sort of a long complicated journey...

I'm still carefully watched, and have to take good care of myself of course. The ability to have a kid in the future is still unsure. I might need an actual transplant in around 20 years or so, but at the moment, I can still appreciate what I have now!

Forgive me, but I'm curious: what caused you to be born with 4?

It was just a congenital fluke, there wasn't a direct cause of it. Just that the kidneys decided to split themselves during an early trimester!
Thanks for answering! I'm in nursing school so I like to hear more about certain cases.

Never had a surgery before (or broke a bone).... *knock on wood!*

They did tell me my wisdom teeth will one day have to be surgically extracted. I've been putting that off.
The only other one I actually foresee would be a tubal ligation, but my doc has suggested to go a less "invasive" route of Essure that requires no surgery.

Let's see.

Rhinoplasty at about age 20 (that's a nose job for those not familiar with the real term).  My nose had been broken more than a few times over the years.  My grandmother was kind enough to foot that bill.

Gall bladder in my mid-40's.  Didn't even know I had a problem until the day I thought I was having some kind of cardiac event.  Nope.  Gall bladder.  Who knew it could be that severe?

Meniscus removal on both knees, in separate surgeries; first early 2000's and the other around 2007 I think.

Last year, uterine fibroid removals.  Meh, no big deal although I did wake up during the surgery and that SUCKED.  I cursed the doctor out like a sailor - I totally remember doing it!

Not going to count all the dental ones.  No point lol.

Overall, nothing too major thankfully.  Kind of life's bumps along the road.

My friend's 4 year old just went through surgery to reimplant several ureters and has an extra kidney as well.  She has been doing really well since; thank the Lord.

I have not had any surgeries; thank the Lord.
