My family adopted a five year old siamese cat from a friend of a friend.  He has been at our house now for five days and while he is a very friendly cat (he does sit with us in the evenings while we watch tv), he likes to hide in the basement on my daughters quilt and he doesn't seem to be eating.  I asked the person I got him from what brand of food she was feeding him and changed to that food yesterday but he still won't eat.  He also seems to cry alot.  Is he just home sick or should I have this checked out?

Hi

5 days is unfortunately a VERY long time for a cat to go without eating.  At this point, a vet visit is in order.  Is he drinking water and using the litterbox?

Yes he is drinking plenty and using the litter box so he is eating something but his food dish always seems full.

instead of filling the food dish, just put a tiny amount of food, like 1-2 teaspoons. This way you'll be able to tell if he's eating anything at all.

Same thing happened to my kitty Jet when we first brought her home. She wasn't eating right, or at all, and we ended up taking her to the vet there was some other issue, but besides that, I used this method to track what she was eating, if she was and how much.

Try what i've told you to at least see if he's eating at all. If he is, maybe he needs a few more days to get used to u guys, but please do take him to the vet...if you see he is still not eating at all....there may be an underlying issue...
