Hey kitty mummy's! It's my first ever post here, i've been doing me researching, reading books and hearing all sorts from different people so I decided to register here and get some proper advice from you guys.

Well what it is, my cats a year and 2 months old and shes pregnant. Please don't hate on me for not having her "spayed" she was always an indoor cat, never ever showed any signs of leaving or even wanting to leave the house untill one day she shot out. Unfortunately, I'm a single mother with a little girl who isn't old enough to sit for 2 minutes while I fetch Minnie in. (Minnie's the cat.) Anyhoo, I knew she would be fine as I live in a very quiet area, friendly neighbours ect.

Well around the beginning of October I noticed she started eating alot more, and her nipples enlarged ALOT. I spoke to my mum about it as shes had cats in the past that have had kittens so she kind of knew what to look out for.

Then as weeks went on her tummy enlarged so I knew 110% that she was pregnant. I knew now was the time to get her booked into the vets. Unfortunately the vets she attends do not offer ultrasounds, so from what the vet said She's due "December Time" < (Vets words not mine.) and that she's carrying around 4 kittens. (First litter.) Soo.. We're now into December and I can literally see her kitty's moving around in her tummy from across the room. She's still eating alot, but not as much as she first did when I noticed the nipple enlargement and she never wants to leave me alone! Apart from tonight she made her way into one of the nesting boxes I layed her out, every now and then I would like softly call her, which normally she was come to me straight away but tonight, she just looked and just layed straight back down and when she does come over onto my lap, she'll always raise her paw and place it on my chest. Now to me, I know something's up as she never does that, ever.

So getting more to the point, do you mummy's think it may be very soon? I haven't noticed any discharge, or mucus or waters or anything out of the ordinary but then she is a very very clean cat.

If someone or some people could give me some more "clear" advice, as I'm going out of my mind with worry. I don't even like the idea of heading to the supermarket for milk just in case I come back and she's in labour. I know a lot of cats deal with it themselves but then I've heard of cats also struggling in labour especially when it came to their first litter.

Thanks guys!

It is a game of guessing the exact hour of arrival.  Even when you know as here when she went out and got mated.  (she sneaked out not by sheer unluck, but because she was in heat, and probably smelled a tom nearby - the tom smelling her too, of course).

If the vet had ultrasound, you wouldnt be much viser here.

So, just to wait and try to prepare as well you can

You mentioned you have done quite a bit of reading but here are a couple more links

 One from this site:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/pregnancy-and-delivery-in-cats

http://www.icatcare.org/advice/my-cat-having-kittens    ( This is a link to a group of articles on cat pregnancy, birth and kittens.   Read the ones on normal cat birth and on " when to wait and when to worry"  )

Welcome and good luck!

If you know the date she shot out then add 66 days and that's her expected date of delivery.  As with humans there is some variability, but past 70 days and you should speak to your vet.

Cats in call can become desparate to get out which is what was going on with your cat.  She can come into call again while feeding her kittens so be careful, and get her spayed as soon as your vet will do it.  Personally I would have spayed her a long time ago - before she was 6 months old - it avoids a lot of problems including this one.  She could also have been spayed as soon as she came back - at that point in time conception would either not have happened, or only just happened, and it would be before implantation.

Thanks for the advice. Minnie had her first kitten at 21:01pm tonight and had her third at 21:52pm. All doing extremely well and mums doing just great with her babies. My cat will not be leaving this house untill she's spayed, I can assure you that.

Good to hear that all went well with the birth.    The next few weeks,   you mostly just need to take care of Minnie so she can take care of the kittens.   She will need a high protein, high fat food that is for kittens , or for both cats and kittens.   & it's good if she eats at least about half wet food, to help stay well hydrated.

Thanks! I was just wondering as Minnie is currently on Felix wet food. Shall I change to kitten food instead? Sorry this is the first time I've heard of this! Thanks :)

Kitten would be a great idea. She needs all the nutrition she can get.

If it is a wet food made from meat without much plant ingredients,  that is usually already high in animal protein.  There is a  lot less difference between the ' regular'  tinned food and the " kitten"  food  than there is in the dry kibble,  since so much dry cat food is very high in carbs,  and doesn't have enough protein for kittens or nursing moms.

If you  feed any dry food,  then I would definitely pick one that is for kittens or all life stages.

I think  I have seen some chart that looked like the tinned Felix may be a bit low in protein especially for a nursing mom or  young kittens.   Maybe it varies by which variety of Felix.    What you could do is add some of a food that is labeled for kittens or all life stages / cats & kittens / pregnant & nursing queens) .,   and feed her that some of the time.    One that is not exactly my top choice,  but i do know it's available and would be adequate, is Royal Canin Babycat.  http://www.royalcanin.co.uk/product...line-health-nutrition-wet/babycat-instinctive

You may be able to find others that are better , for example with no gluten or meat byproducts.    There is something called Natures Menu that looks like it may be good.   and maybe the wet Applaws?  &   I know some people in the UK get some foods made in other European countries,  for example Grau, Animonda Carny,  Bozita. etc.    I know some of this stuff can be ordered from Zooplus.

I am sure Shunra will have more detailed and more  up to date information on the best foods you can get there  for a lactating queen and then for kittens.

Zooplus is the place.  Read the ingredients and check the prices - some are very expensive! Also look for packs in mixed flavours.
