Well I was visiting my brother and sister-in-law for a few days this week. And I left Em all alone
Well my mom dropped by to see he had food and water and some pets and hugs.

I missed Em while I was gone and Kat (my sis in law) said he doesn't sense time so he probably doesn't know how long I've been gone.

Now I don't believe that. She said that animals don't have any clue about time passing.....

Any one else have any thoughts on that?

Two words - yeah right ! They may not sense time like we do, but they know when we are gone longer than we normally are for work and such (mine also know when I come home earlier than normal too.!)

That is what I thought to. When I'm working Emmett wakes me up every morning weekend or not at about the same time. He must have an inner clock saying this is the time Mom usually get up.

I'm going to ask her where she heard that.....

I'm not sure whether they can sense time, but they can definitely sense routine.. He probably doesn't realize how long you've been gone, but he would definitely notice that you're not there when you're supposed to be doing this or that or whatever.

I am sure Em knows how long you are away - when hubby Jake comes home from school or work, Peedoodle and Kahu get up to greet him and Peedoodle is all over Jake - I can tell that Peedoodle missed him, so I think they do know that you are away.

I sure get yelled at if I have been out for long, or away overnight. I was catsitting for three weeks, and the poor cat's mom and dad got ignored when they got home, so that cat certainly noticed that something had happened.

My sister's dog has an amazing ability to gauge time. She greets people with enthusiasm related to the time passed since she last saw someone. I can always tell when I haven't been to visit for a while, the dog cries and cries, and brings me all her new toys to see (the ones she has been given since my last visit). And if a group of people arrives for a family party, the dog will always go directly to greet the person she has not seen in the longest time. Every time. So that animal keeps track of how long people have been away. She may not know the words for "Three days", or "Two months", but she sure acts accordingly.

Movin' on up!
Rowdy sure seems to know when I'm coming home. No matter what day or what time, she's in the front window when I pull into the driveway.

I have to agree with the sencing of a routine. I think it's just a wild guess about the time.

My guys always know when I'm coming home and all 3 of them are sitting in the foyer. If I'm getting dressed to just go outside they hang around my feet and they sit and stare at me as if to say, "Just where do you think you're going without us?!?"

Oh they definately know how to make me feel guilty!

Sometimes i don't think that my Kitties have any idea of time! When I come home from work, it is Treat Time, since I have been gone for a while. The problem is that some of my Kitties think that whenever I leave and come home, no matter how short a time, it is Treat Time. I have gone out to get a newspaper and when I come home, 10 minutes later, I have some Kitties sitting in the Treat area waiting for their treats.

Well, when it comes to feeding time, I am 100% sure they know all about time. Skinny meows so loud in the morning if her breakfast is late by 2 minutes.

When I leave them for more than 24 hours (when I go on out of town trips), I have been told they sit near my bedroom door and seem to wonder why I am not out.It may be my imagination, but when they see me driving in, they have a "where did you come from?" look.I believe time is not that important for them but your presence is...
