The other day i recognized that my kitten doesnt meow anymore. I am not sure if this normal or not. I am worried about him now. I recently spent over 200 for him at the vets and am low on funds. I will take him if this urgent but i wanted some other opinions. Also hid mother seems to kangaroo kick him when he gets to close to her hind legs....is this normal behavior? I cant tell if she is playimg with him or trying to hurt him.

How long has this been going on for and how 'vocal' was he before? My one cat sometimes goes a few days without meowing; one the other hand I'd probably think it was a full-scale emergency if the other one went longer than a few hours without meowing his head off about something

Some cats are a lot more vocal than others.  Have you seen any changes in behavior other than his not meowing? Is he still eating, drinking, and using the litterbox as normal? Also how old is he?  If you can answer my questions, we'll be better able to help you with this

He is 34 days old and he used to meow a good amount. He eats well and still plays a lot. He can meow sometimes but other times he opens his mouth and nothing comes out. But when he really wants something he meows. So i am not sure what the problem is. :/

There is probably a sound, but we humans dont hear it.  My younger resident was so, he learned to meow first as almost adult.  He used other sounds if he realy wanted to communicate.  [yes, I notice he had already learned to meow for real]

So, if he otherwise seems fine and behaves normally, I myself would hope everything is OK...

Thinking again, I suppose it is possible the mom kicked him in the throat and disturbed the voice.  But as it  apparently not become life threating, I dont know if a vet can do something about it.  He will prob say, wait and see.

What bothers me, is the mom kicking him when he nears her hind legs.  It seems she is touchy there.

There may be a reason, her being such sensitive there.

Begin by you look and see extra how she is with her hind legs and so.  It may be you must go with HER to the vet.

Moms giving their kittens lessons, even quite hard lessons, isnt unusual, so I dont think she wants to hurt him.

It may even be a hard playing... It depends on how he is taking it; does he merrily participate in the wrestling match although yelping some, or does he retire making a sorrowfull posture, as soon as he can?

Good luck!

Yeah he will tackle and roll around with her. I think she is playing but sometimes it looks a little to rough to me. Im not use to having the mother cat around so im not sure what is normal. I think she might be trying to discourage him from suckling because his favorite spot was near her hind legs. Could that be why she does it? She is a feral cat too that might also cause it. Ive taken her and shes such a sweet girl.

I understand he is the only kitten?  so the only one to play with, and doing wrestling matches, is his mom.

And moms are not always very fond in it.  Nature hasnt prepared them to play much with their kittens, as usually there are several kittens to play with each others.

That is why males have easier to be that Friendly Uncle part, and play with the kittens.  THIS is their part of the things.

My guess now is, the kitten has discovered it it easiest to trigger the mom by going on her back legs...

Othewise he would probably try with biting on her tail, preferably when she is asleep.   As this is their favorite trick. (and that is surely why many kittens do bites their human owners in toes when they are asleep).

But still, take a close look at these teats, if they arent irritated or inflammed in other way.

Wrap her up in a towel if need be, so you dont need to hold her down by force - this is practically impossible, and may make you an enemy.  Wrapping in a towel is safer, ans leaves no such drawbacks.

Good luck!
