He is a little mischievous! He love to play with my toes at night and jumps on the table when we eat . Only had him for a month so he is still learning the rules.
RULES?!  You have rules for cats in your house?!
The cats make the rules here....

Thanks!  yes - those ghost eyes sure do ruin a pic!

He turned his head just as I was taking the pic - good thing, too 'cause I wouldn't have been able to post KiKi with ghost eyes!!

Welcome to the TCS segelkatt!  Have you posted in the forum to introduce new members?

Well, segelkatt, you've made quite a statement here by saying that an adult feral can never be tamed.

I've gotta tell you - with patience there can be progress towards taming/socializing.

I'm experiencing that with the feral-born that I care for.

Bringing them inside to live with you, and a with a great deal of patience, it can be done.  It is a lot of work, and not for the 'faint of heart".

They may not be as social as hand raising a 6-week old kitten, or even a 3-month old kitten, but most will eventually come around.

I think what you are doing for the feral-born around you is wonderful and a great work of compassion.

Ooops, I think this thread is about or for Black Cats Only. :), so back to the topic, sorry.

1) socialized to  a certain degree, tamed to be like any other house cat I think not, I want a cat that will respond to me in a positive fashion, that I can hug and get purrs in return, not just something that tolerates my presence, eats the food, shelter and care I provide and otherwise hides under the bed or wherever and will hiss and scratch anyone who comes near it, that cat is better off and probably mentally healthier although not as long-lived if it stays outside

2) progress, yes, total success-I doubt it

3) we totally agree on little feral kittens up to a certain age which may vary

4) TNR is the only way to go apart from the people who advocate just getting rid of feral cats any way possible, including poisoning, trapping and euthanizing, and who knows what other kinds of inhumane ways someone can dream up. Our colony has pretty much stayed the same over the years. Every once in a while a new cat will join that we have a hard time to trap (cats are so smart when it comes to stay out of traps, the best way to trap a female cat seems to be to wait until they have a litter and then you know where they hang out and sometimes you can trap them and their kittens, and let mama cat go, after she has been spayed, once the kittens are weaned, a tom is another story but they also do not seem to be as smart as their female counter parts regarding traps)

5) it does not matter if we get off the subject, after all, there all black feral cats too

and by the way: my moniker means "sailing cat" in "Plattdeutsch", a German language spoken in the northwestern coastal regions, as I not only love cats but I am also an avid sailor and have been for over 30 years.

3) we agree on TNR

Sounds like you are counting the days! What a handsome boy he is. I LOVE that middle picture. Looks like he absolutely adores you. How old is he?
Thanks ^_^ I'd tell him you said he was handsome but his ego is big enough :p He's seriously the most confident, relaxed cat I've ever met. We got him and his brother together because we wanted two cats, and the shelter said they had to go together because Max was "shy" - ha! He just delegates everything to his brother. Billy hides when there's guests or fireworks and the like, Max thinks they're all in celebration of his wonderfulness.

The second picture is of last Christmas, the mouse is full of catnip if you can't tell by his expression.

He's just over twelve. Getting some grey fur...

And yeah, nineteen days and I'll see my big boys again :D

He is absolutely gorgeous! He's definitely welcome on this thread. Too bad you don't show his white undercoat. His golden eyes are to die for. I adopted a black smoke a long time ago and didn't know what that was called, I just loved the way the white would show wherever the fur parted. he went to the rainbow bridge a long time ago, he suffered from feline AIDS at a time when nobody knew how to treat it, it was just fatal and they did not have a test then either, otherwise I don't think the shelter would have let him go. He was a big teddy bear so I named him Teddy.
l'm sorry for your loss of Teddy

The kitty in your pic above has gorgeous eyes!! They look aqua.

Panthera's eyes are considered "seafoam' which they say is rather rare . They are too pale to be aqua and tend more towards the green. Sometimes when the light is just right they are yellow, but then again I have seen them when they were almost sky blue, just paler.

those are not "orange eyes", they are golden
They're called copper, but in some light they look bright, bright orange, and in other light they have a yellowish look. They are his best feature
, he looks like a shocked owl.
