Hello I am really worried cause my kitten is 6 months now and he is getting his neutering next Friday he is staying overnight but I am just so worried. My little pouncy is such a cute little cat I don't wanna loose him! I love my cat so much I am so worried. The vet says he will get uti's afterward? Why is that? And will he be okay over there? My little guy is really attached to me and sleeps right next to me every single night. Will he be okay?

Neutering a male is a very simple procedure and very low-risk. Once they're out of the anesthetic they're good as new. Since he's staying overnight he should be fully recovered by the time you pick him up.

Neutering a male does not increase the chances of UTIs. I'm not sure where your vet got that. I would be suspicious about his cat experience. One thing you can do to reduce the chances of UTIs is to make sure he gets lots of water. The easiest way to do that is to feed him wet food. Here's a good website: www.catinfo.org

If you are concerned about your cat, ask your vet to do pre-surgical blood work, this tests things like liver & kidney function.  The liver and kidneys are the organs that handle, process and rid the body of the anesthesia.  As mentioned above neutering male cats is a relatively simple procedure, and your kitty should be well awake and on the road to recovery when you pick him up.

Naturally you're concerned because your little guy is having surgery
.  But this is a very common surgery, and the risks are very low.  I always worry too, because I love them so much .  But as long as they run a blood test before the anesthesia, there shouldn't be any issues

That's so weird that your Vet said he will get UTI's afterwards.  Some people think that neutering ups the risk of future UTI's, but all my cats have been neutered, and I have never had a cat get a UTI.  (hope I didn't just jinx myself
)

that all goes well

Yes, this
I'd be worried too because I absolutely love my little guys, but it is a very common and low risk procedure
 In fact, most people pick their cats up from neutering on the same day (at least in my experience). Y our little guy should be well on the road to recovery by the time you pick him up as others have said

I am also very puzzled by the UTI thing.  This is the first time I've heard this and I do a lot of work with cats.  Like mrsgreejeens, my cats have always been neutered and (knock on wood)  have never had UTIs.  I think diet and monitoring water intake is much more important than neutering or not.

 To you.  You really are doing a wonderful thing for your kitty!!

I think these types of things are harder on the humans than on the kitties!  I know I worry like crazy when I have to leave my kitties at the vet for whatever reason, even though I know it's the best place for them and/or the procedure is needed.  Your little guy should be fine, but it's still normal to be concerned.  About the UTI comment, I'm wondering if the vet was talking about upper respiratory infection??  It's common for kitties under stress (& going to the vet and getting parts removed is stressful for some kitties!) to develop a URI a week or so after their visit.  (None of mine have, but it's not unheard of.)

I worried just like you when my male kitty got neutered, I couldn't bear the thought of something weird happening. Don't worry though, he will come back to you just like normal. Neutering is "easier" than spaying, the procedure isn't very invasive, so you shouldn't worry about complications during surgery or after. I dropped my kitty off early in the morning and picked him up the same day, but your kitty staying overnight will be better because he can come off the anesthesia without the stress of moving and being in the car coming back home . My kitty was back to himself that same day and was playing and jumping around like kittens do.

Just stick it out and be proud that you are being responsible and getting him neutered in the first place!
