I'm looking for a way to supplement my income.

I know this seems to be the common tread nowadays but I'm sick of feeling taken advantage of at work and so is everyone else who works there.  The employer has been cutting hours, reducing benefits,  and trying to manage with as few staff as possible, etc and then they wonder why no one wants to work for them.

I'm looking for at home or anything close by but yes, not being taken advantage of would be nice.

Watch with some of the work at home adverts you see:  I've looked at a number over the last 2 or 3 weeks and they usually pay very small amounts and they then pay through a site that takes a % off what your earnings are so you end up with virtually nothing.  They put a maximum amount on how much you can get paid at any one time, like if you do a number of jobs for someone,  earn maybe £25, or $30 in total for all the jobs together and the people who process the money between the work agency and you claim e.g. 5%.  The agencies you do the work for don't loose out at all.  It makes money for the middle company processing the payment and minimises what you get.  Ever get the feeling you might be being taken advantage of again?   Read the small print.

I've been looking at work from home ideas lately too. Yes, there are a lot of scams and websites where you can do tasks for very little money. Globalisation and the internet has meant companies can outsource minor jobs for less money than hiring. I guess a lot of it is aimed at people working in countries like India where getting paid $4 an hour isn't too bad. That's cool, I support that but it isn't going to help me. After a bit of research I came across transcription work. These jobs send you an audio file and you type it out and send it back. Again, there are sites you can sign up to and earn a few dollars, and some that even charge you a %, but there are real jobs that only hire within countries such as Australia, Canada, and the US. Most I've looked at prefer experience. And you need to type at least 60 words a minute and have excellent spelling and grammar. A lot of people might think transcription would be boring, but I actually like the thought of it for a part-time job with little responsibility. I would consider it as a supplement to other work. Full-time from home could be too isolating I think. And yes, it probably would get too tedious all day every day. But I've discovered I can't type fast enough so I'm practising and then I'm going to look further at trying it out. I might sign up for some of the low paid stuff just to practice. I don't know if I'm really naïve about it but it seems ok if you do your research.

I have two GFs who do transcription work and they really enjoy it. One is an accomplished typist; she's the fastest, most accurate typist I've ever known and she works for several hospitals. She lives in Minnesota and one of her hospitals is here in PA. Her fingers just fly through the keys.....she can talk to me and type at the same time, she is just amazing. My other GF is not as fast a typist, but she is accurate; she's been doing this type of work now for several years and it's basically her job. I'm not that great a typist, nor am I particularly accurate, so it's not something I can do.

If I didn't hate housework so much, I'd look into a cleaning business. I would want to be licensed, insured, and bonded, too, just to protect myself. And I'm just not into all that housework.
