Hi, I am Michael and live in Norhumberland, UK, and am currently a biology student, driven by my my love for living things.
Now, I am pleased to introduce my cat Mittens. She is about 2 1/2 years, and has had a troubled start to her life. She was rescued from a small cottage, where she lived with around 22 other cats and 7 dogs. The living conditions were meant to be terrible, and I think the toilet was possibly the floor . All but 2 of the cats and dogs were taken from the owner, and I believe she got help cleaning her house out, and will be monitored to stop her pet hoarding again! Following rescue, Mittens was at a foster carers for about 6 months, living in a shed and then I saw her beautiful little face on the foster website, and messaged immediately to adopt her.
She was then brought out to my rural cottage by the foster mum, and became part of out family that day She was very shy, and overwhelmed by the space she had to explore (one room at a time, of course!). But she quickly came out of hiding and was purring in no time.
I had wanted to keep her as a house cat, but she loved looking out the window so much, so I gave in and eventually let her come in the garden with me. She simply froze at first, but was soon swanning round the village like she ruled the roost!
One day, around her 2nd bday, she came home as usual, and passed me by without a second glance. A bout an hour later I went to stroke her on the sofa, and saw blood! Then I saw her back leg hanging on with skin! Next, a rush to the vet, and an amputation booked in, to be collected the next day I had the worst night of worry and making adaptions for her (large low litter tray, and all climables removed etc). The next day we went and collected her, got her meds, thanked the vet (not for the bill-thank you pet insurance! and brought her home. She was a little dazed, drugged, and unstable on her feet, but within a week of me staying with her 24/7 (she must have been so sick of me), she was pretty much back to normal. Trying to escape into the gardens, and even on 3 legs she was ver difficult to catch! She is now a house cat, as if she can lose a leg in a village of 80people, then I am not taking that chance again!
Anyway, sorry if I am rambling on, but I'm excited to be telling cat lovers her story, as many people just don't get dont get enfused like me!
Mittens is doing great now, has totally adapted to house cat life ( having destroyed wall paper and carpet in the process!). She is a little more needy, as in she howls when I'm in a different room, but all she want is tickles and love
She truly is my baby, and she makes me so happy each and everyday
Next I will introduce Fluffy, my other baby, but will do so when I get a good pic of him!
