Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Hanukkah (or insert other spellings!)

Happy Thursday!

Since not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving.. my question is..

What's your favorite holiday meal, and why? Do you make anything special?

Turkey with all the trimmings, since it's not something we have very often. I can't say that I make anything special.

I love cooking a Cajun injected turkey, squash casserole, and Emeril's recipe for wild rice stuffing for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sometimes Easter too if I have time. This year instead of turkey I wanted ham so it's my first time baking a ham! Pretty excited about it!

Usually turkey with all the traditional trimmings.

Occasionally if finances are right and there isn't a big crowd for Christmas dinner than I would make a standing rib roast.  That is actually my favorite but more often than not it's ham or turkey for Christmas.

Turkey with stuffing, turnip, mashed potatoes, honey garlic carrots and pumpkin pie for dessert.
I wish it was Thanksgiving here so I could have turkey today, but in Canada, it's in October.

Italian breaded steak at Christmas! It was my family's traditional Christmas meal growing up and it just feel like Christmas until I smell it baking in the oven. Since we always eat with my husband's family (mine has all passed away or not in town), we have something more traditional on actual Christmas (ham, turkey, roast, etc) but SOMETIME between Christmas and New Year's I make MY traditional meal.

Ham at any time! I'm really not a huge turkey fan. A nice large ham is always a treat. I don't like it with any fruit glaze. I do it with brown sugar. Yummy! And the leftovers are great too!

This is what I made for Thanksgiving: Turkey and blue cranberry sauce (before/afters) Green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole (before/afters)

My mom visited and brought some of her dressing as well!

For Christmas, I normally make a lasagna or a ham.

It has to be Christmas dinner for me. We have the following.
Starters: prawn cocktail
Main: Roast Turkey, Roast Pork, boiled, roast and mashed potatoes, buttered carrots, marrowfat processed peas, Brussel sprouts, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, apple sauce and gravy.
Dessert: Christmas pudding, mince pies both served with either custard or cream.

Then for tea it's cold turkey and pickled beetroot sandwiches, tinned salmon sandwiches, salad and then homemade trifle.

StarryEyedTiger, those are great pictures!

Any holiday works for me. We always have turkey for Thanksgiving, the stuffed crown roast of pork for Christmas, and a stuffed ham for Easter. Some of the side dishes are the same, but each holiday calls for some different dishes, too. And the desserts are different for the holidays. Always something pumpkin for Thanksgiving, some kind of cheesecake and a huge white coconut cake for dessert on Christmas. Easter is usually some kind of trifle or something with strawberries. Sometimes I'll make a white coconut cake for Easter, too.

But I love the big family picnics out in the back yard during the summer, too, because of all the picnic-type foods we have then.

So it's all of the above, for different reasons.

My favorite also. Love the stuffing, and I could live on mashed potatoes!
