Hi all,

I am new here and just recently posted about my kitties visit to the emergency vet, and his normal vet for a UTI and sturvite crystals. (please read here for more info on that): http://www.thecatsite.com/t/268415/kitty-has-his-first-uti-what-to-do-from-here#post_3447522

But in my post I forgot to mention that while at the emergency vet, they also told me that he has a heart murmur :( This is the first time it has been diagnosed, and when we went back to his normal vet I asked if she could hear it and she said yes.

They didn't give me any info on it really, but I asked his normal vet about it and she said, if in his other upcoming visits (in a few months or whatever) it is reoccurring, then we will have to be referred to a cardiologist for an ultrasound to determine what kind it is.

When reading to see what kind it could possibly be, I was reading that it could possibly be a stress murmur? You know, when they are HIGHLY stressed, their heart doesn't beat properly? I'm not sure; I am not a vet, so I won't make my own diagnosis. But he was just neutered about 6 months ago, and was boarded for 3 days after so he was watched and checked on then, and there wasn't a murmur.

Just wondering, does anyone else have kitties with murmurs?

We don't really have the money to afford him getting an ultrasound, a chest x-ray and all of the other things the vet said he would possibly have to have. :( We can save up as much as we can, but it's going to be hard, and I also have no idea how much those kinds of things cost. :/ I'm just hoping that it is nothing to worry about, but of course without the tests, I won't know what kind it is.

He's always been 100% healthy poor guy, and all of a sudden all of these things are happening. If anyone has any advice or can share their experiences I would appreciate it. Just trying not to worry about it, and hoping for the best!

We have one cat with a mild murmur.  We've been told it wouldn't cause any problems and so far, it hasn't.  (she's eight now)

It could be the stress as you mentioned.  Unless he has some problems, I'd follow the vet 's advice.  Keep a close eye on him and report any problems.

Thanks Ondine, we plan on just keeping an eye on it, and hoping for the best. He hasn't had any issues previously, and this was his first bout with a UTI, otherwise he's always been really healthy. So we're hoping it's nothing to worry about!
