Who here has had cats who had them extracted? Any heads up on how your cat did afterwards, anything to be careful of etc?

Right now my 10 yr old male Pocus is getting two teeth extracted a long with a dental cleaning. I am a nervous wreck. It didnt help he leaned too far forward in the carrier on the way to the vet this morning and made it go butt over tea kettle (my grandma use to say lol). So not only was I anxious before, I almost had a heart attack trying to find a place to pull over to right him, praying he didn't break a leg on the way to a dental procedure. :(

Anyways....What can you tell me and is this a relatively easy thing and I shouldn't worry??

One of my cats had two teeth extracted for FORL recently and he did fine.  There is nothing that can be done to prevent them.  My vet told me there have been some attempts to fill them but they weren't successful.  She also said that they have been found in the cats found in the ancient Egyptian tombs so they have been around since cats were domesticated or before.  They aren't even really sure what causes them so the theory is that they are something autoimmune.

Thank you for your reply. The vet called an hour ago and said he did just fine. I get to go pick him up at 3pm and will have to give him antibiotics and pain meds for a few days. They took out one small tooth on top and the small one right below it. I'm hoping it was caught early so there won't be any complications. I hope he wasn't in too much pain..he didnt act it, but as we all know, cats hide their pain well.

I've had cats before-they were indoor/outdoor cats who lived to be 16 & 19 yrs of age and I've NEVER heard of all the things my sissy cats are going through who are pampered and loved indoors all the time LOL. Amazing.

My checkbook isn't gonna like it, but I am happy my kitty came through it ok. I know I won't miss his stinky breath! LOL I hope he still drools...he did it since he was a kitten...him and his litter sister....it was how I  knew they were happy LOL

Glad to hear all went well.  Just as an aside, you can seat belt his carrier into the seat so next time he won't be able to tip it over.  Just run the seatbelt thru the hendle and buckle him in

The bill wasn't as bad as I thought...I almost started crying happy tears  because I knew it was going to be BIG".

He came home, got out of the carrier, checked to make sure the house was the same as when he left it and then went right for the food dish!!!

Hes slept on and off and he just ate dinner which I sprinkled some probiotics on since he's on antibiotics so soon. They only had to suture one gum hole shut. He goes back Dec 6 for a recheck (no charge for that yee haw).

It was a good day. He's probably thinking "Not for me" but its all good. It could have been worse LOL. I told the girls at the vet about me almost crippling him and they laughed. I said "C'mon Pocus...lets see if I can get you home without maiming you" LOL

If I put the carrier sideways, he's fine. For some reason I didn't and this is the first time it flipped over. I have a bigger carrier and I was probably thinking it was it.....I was a little ball of nerves this morning with all sorts of things on my mind. My bad and will always remember...SIDEWAYS! LOL
