Hi,,,I am new to this forum. On Oct. 31 st. I rescued a small Chocolate Point Siamese female. I took her to the vet and she said she had URI. Antibiotics for 20 days, and still cannot breathe through nose. Now on Prednisone. The other vet sedated her and explored her nose and sinuses, thinking she may have a polyp, but nothing. She is not responding to steroid either. She is active, eats well, gaining weight. She snores, and sounds terrible most of the time. No discharge from nose. I am beginning to think it is allergy, but I have never encountered this with a cat. Not sure about her age either. My vet died a couple years ago, and there are 2 young people there now. Does anyone have any ideas to help here? Thanks!

Cats can have allergies although I would think there would have been some response to the steroid. Are there any other symptoms? You can ask the vet about proper dosing of anti-allergy meds. They may help if it is allergies.

An antihistamine might work better for allergies than a steroid. Has that been tried?

Thanks for your reply. I am thinking it may be allergy. She has 2 more steroid pills and then I will call and see what he says.

If she has discharge, ask them to do a culture and sensitivity test to see what's going on and what med will treat it.  You can give her a daily antihistamine as well.  I give my cat Claritin, 1/4 to 1/2 or a 10mg pill once a day.  In the meantime, you can run a vaporizer and/or steam her several times during the day in a nice, steamy bathroom.  That will help break up the congestion in her nose and sinus cavities.
