Hello,

Ive posted a thread before.  About my poor kitty Dave.

I LOVE HER SOOOOO MUCH.  So much.  She's been with me through every breakup.  My mothers death 3 years ago.  My ups and downs.  Everything.  Unconditional love.

She's dying.  And I know why.  She has an overactive thyroid problem.  She's starving to death.  She can't get enough food.  Over activity and excited.  All the symptoms and Ive done all the internet reading.

Im upset though because I CAN NOT AFFORD to treat her.  I don't know what to do.  I am out of work.  I barely have enough money to feed them let alone vet trips.  I don't buy food for myself because I have to buy food, litter, treats, whatever item they need.  But I HAVE NOTHING, NOTHING for a vet trip.

My father, who is a billionaire, not kidding, won't help me.  He won't give me money for myself let alone for money for a trip to the vet and medicine for my kitty.  He says, and Im NOT kidding, he says this:  "Just kill them.  Just put them in a plastic bag.  Then you won't have bills."  He's SOOOOO  heartless.  He's an evil, cruel, cruel man who likes to see me in pain, and he hates cats, he likes dogs.  He just got a new puppy, and its cost him hundreds in vet bills and licensing recently, and he complained to me the other day about the vet costs for her and her yapping.  I reminded him of my needs for my pets, and he said my cats would make good scarves. What an evil man.

I NEED HELP!  I don't know what to do.  Im going to call my vet tomorrow and see if there is any sort of assistance I can get.  I didn't buy insurance when I got her, like an IDIOT, I didn't think about this type of situation 12 years ago.  BUT I NEED HELP.  I love her sooooo much.  OMG, I LOVE HER.  I don't know what to do.  Does anyone have any advice?  Any idea of where or what I can do?

Anyway,  I NEED HELP and ADVICE.  I AM going to take her to the vet tomorrow regardless of me not having money.  Ill offer to wash their floors, clean their bathrooms, answer phones, do WHATEVER they need for me to get help for her.  Im crying so hard.  I don't know what to do.  I can't watch her die before my eyes.  I know untreated she'll die soon.  Her little heart will give out or her kidneys will fail.

If anyone can give advice on a special place or company that'll offer veterinary assistance, medical assistance or anything!!!  I live in Vancouver, BC Canada.  Anyone know of a vet, insurance, special assistance, anything PLEASE let me know.  Im not working and Ive considered pan handling to pay for her.  I need help.  I know pets die.  I am okay with that.  But I don't want her to die like this.

HELP!!!!!

l live in Canada (not BC) and my vet is willing to work with those who can't afford services. l know they have an installment plan. l'm sure some vets out there will too.

Can you take her across the border to the States? Vet care is MUCH less expensive in the States. But she'll need to be up to date on her rabies shot to be allowed to cross.

Other than that, do you have friends who could pitch in together to help?  l know some people have started online pleas for money through websites, but l know nothing about it to offer any help. Hopefully somebody'll come by who can go into that option.

Good luck, and keep us posted on Dave's health

As someone who lived in Washington state for a few years, just a 2 hours away from Vancouver, I can honestly say that vet care is NOT cheaper in the states. In fact, I have a cat with asthma, and I buy his medicine from Canada because it is so much cheaper.

I am not sure how to help you, but if you did manage to find a vet who offers cheaper care in the United States, you do NOT need a valid rabies shot to cross the border initially (the key word there is initially). You can google the info for the most up to date info, but I've taken my cats across the border on vacation with us (so we could give them daily medicine) and I have never had a border guard from either side ask for info about the cat in the back seat. HOWEVER, technically, you do have to carry the cat's records with you in case they do ask. Just because I never had one ask, doesn't mean that that they never will. But with that being said, the rabies vaccine eventually has to be done, but if you cross the border without an up to date vaccine, you have a certain amount of time to get it done (I want to say it's two weeks but please double check if you decide to do this). When you cross the border AGAIN, they might ask you to prove that you had the rabies shot done,  but again, it's up to the individual border guard to ask for the paper work. I just don't want you to panic if you decide to cross the border without an up to date shot. Chances are, if you cross for vet care and you don't have an up to date vaccine, the vet will give you one and you'll be able to re-cross with that updated info.

But, as someone who lived in the area that you would most likely travel to to find a different vet, the likelihood of finding a cheaper vet in the states in unlikely. I've found that the cost of care in Canada is either comparable or less expensive than the care in the United States - at least in Washington state. It may be different elsewhere, but when I lived in that area, I was looking for cheaper vet care and compared the vets near me to ones in the Vancouver area and the costs were comparable.

Good luck though. I hope someone can direct you to a place that can help you!

http://www.dollarwiseanimalclinic.com/services.htm

They advertise themselves as a low cost vet clinic. The price page shows neuters at $50, which is a third of what l paid here. And dental cleaning at $90, it costs roughly $1000 here. So if you look around in the States you have a much higher likelihood of finding one of these low cost/cheap vet clinics, and virtually none up here. The one linked is in Bellingham, Wa.

How is your kitty today?
