Mitzy my foster who gave birth a week ago attacked my son yesterday. (he's 22) I had to go out of town for two nights and asked

him to check on her and the kittens just to make sure they were okay. He sat on the bed and was petting her. (she moved them to between,

the bed and wall) Suddenly, she launched at him and bit his upper inner arm. He ran from the room and she followed, still attacking. My great dane came running up the stairs barking so Mitzy stopped and ran back to the bedroom.  Kinda stressed cause I"m not back home til tomorrow. Now the health unit will be involved. I"ve had aggressive mommas before but never towards people.

Where the kittens in the room with her? Being a foster she very likely wasn't comfortable with someone she was not used to being around her kittens. Do you know her history? Shots records? As for your son he really needs to see a doctor after such a severe bite.

Agree with Faery.  both on the doctor visit, and her being feeling unsure...    She did what a mother must do, if she think there is a threat to her children, even if the threat is distant.

It is also possible she heard something from the outside - and two different impulses, both potentially threating -  clash!.

Let your son take it more piano now, just changing her food and litter.

She's been with me for a bit over 2 weeks and yes, up to that time it was only me dealing with her. Both he and my husband had gone in the day prior to check on them and pet her. In the intro to my husband she showed sights of stress, large pupils and staring. I talked her thru it and she seemed to relax. I never thought she'd attack so harshly. Now she is quarantined for 10 days and health unit will come to see her. I know this is instinct on her part and she is a young first time mom. She was left in a carrier with the father at the shelters back door. My son refuses to see a doctor and says he is fine .. Grr

He REALLY needs to get some antibiotics after nasty bites like those. They can go septic  very quickly.

Mitzy was just acting like a protective mother, it's understandable that she would be worried around someone she didn't know very well.

Hope her quarantine goes OK.

Just checking in, how's Mitzy doing? How about your son, did you talk him into seeing a doctor?

Mitzy is doing well and so are the kittens. They are 12 days old and all their eyes are open, although the only girl still has one half shut.

No, I could not get him to go but it healed well with no issues. Mitzy is doing fine. I`m the only one that goes in now. Although my youngest

son opened the door to ask me a question today and she was giving him ``the look``.

I took some photos today and upload them soon.
