My kitten is about 6 months old, I've yet to get him declawed and neutered because I know it'll be like $200. My problem right now though, is that I ran out of flea medicine and I don't think the frontline I put on him before really worked. I can't put the Frontline on his skin because he has so much hair. So what would you guys recommend for a kitten around 6 months old, that has so much hair you can't get to the skin to apply any medicine? Also, when should I get him declawed and neutered. He is an extremely crazy cat, runs away, fights, bites, etc. I have a stray cat that stays outside that is just so loving and my tame kitten that has the long hair acts like he is wild.

Please don't get him declawed.  This site is anti-declaw and the forum rules state:

"4. This website is anti-declawing. Understand that if you are pro-declaw in your posts, you will encounter opposition. Please learn more about alternatives for declawing here in our forums as well as on our website itself. Declaw - More than Just a Manicure."

About the flea preventative, please consult your vet.  Do not buy anything over the counter.   Be sure you are parting the fur well enough to get the medication on his skin.  If you need help, I'm sure the vet would be happy to show you tricks on applying to your long haired kitty.

Thank you for that info. I'll never get him declawed. So what's the best way to go in terms of his claws?

I use Revolution, you can get it thru your vet or online. Its a spot on. Mine are LH. You apply it on the back of the neck, just above where the neck goes into the body. You part the fur, with your fingers, you apply it to the skin you see. If your having trouble, your vet can show you how to do it.

For his claws, you clip his claws, I use a small nail clipper, your vet can show you how to do it. You get him a scratching post, rub some cat nip on it, and take his paws, and show him how to scratch on it.  This takes time, to teach him to get his claws clipped, to teach him to use a scratching post.

Best of luck.

I suppose I'll have to ask when I go neuter him!

If you start trimming his nails now while he's a kitten, it'll be so much easier to do it in the long run.  I use the kind that look like scissors with a notch for the nail, similar to this one:    We trim nails about every 2 weeks and that seems to work well for our crew.  Here's another article I found on how to trim kitty nails.  http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/cliented/cat_claws.aspx

For more information about declawing, visit the Paw Project's website.  http://www.pawproject.org/

Please don’t declaw your kitten! I’ve always had very good results with Frontline Plus. You part the hair along the cat’s back and just squirt it down. If you really don’t care for Frontline Plus, I would recommend Advantage II. I’m begging you – don’t declaw your cat! Instead, play with him in an appropriate manner. I also recommend trying to incorporate your outdoor cat to be indoors.
