Hi, I'm new and wanted to share Spike's story. He passed away in April of this year, after he went into irreversible kidney failure. He suffered from kidney disease so we knew he was never going to live to be an old boy, but it was terribly painful to lose him just after his 5th birthday. He was very much my boy, bonded to me. His brother (who we still have) is very much my hubby's cat!

The above pic was after his major surgery to repair his damaged urethra. He had a section of it completely removed, and for three years, he was extremely well.

My beautiful boy the day before he died. I knew in this moment that he wouldn't be coming home. He'd lost something, his eyes weren't as bright and he looked at me as if to say 'Mum, I'm tired. I'm done'. The next day, our vet told us that his kidney's were no longer functioning and they had both swollen to the point that they were in danger of rupturing. I knew in my heart what we needed to do and it was the first time I've had to make the decision without parental guidance. Sadly I wasn't with him, I was at a work conference and couldn't get back. Rather than make him wait so I could be there, my husband was with him when he was euthanised.

My heart still breaks looking at pictures of him, he was a wonderful companion and the nicest natured cat anyone could hope for.

Darling Spike, rest in peace.

What a beautiful little soul! I'm so sorry you have to go through so much pain, but know in your heart that you did all you could and kept him from suffering. You gave him so much love and comfort..... I'm sure it helped him to cross over to that Rainbow Bridge in peace. He must have been meant to come into your life, to someone that would show him love in his short life, bless you for caring so much. We will all help you try to lessen that burden of pain, let us comfort you as you comforted Spike. RIP beautiful Spike!
