Hi! New member all the way from the UK over here - are there any more locals about?

I joined after lurking for ages, always been a bit wary of forums, but can't imagine a better place to be than a cat forum ;)

I'm 28 and grew up in a family always surrounded by animals, but cats were always my heart. My Dad taught me all I know, and since his sudden passing last Christmas I'm focusing a lot of love on my fur family!

So without further ado, I'd like to introduce our clan!

Oz - 5yrs 7mnths

Oz has been with me and my husband since he was 10 weeks old, after someone recommended us to a guy who'd been struggling to rehome two black and white kittens. We got Oz with his litter mate Spike, seen in the background of the second pic. (Whedon fans over here!). Oz is very much my husband's cat, which is ironic since he never had cats before. He's got some really strange behaviour quirks from ridiculous to curious. He's also scared of EVERYTHING.

At two years old Spike was diagnosed with CRF, and after a major operation to repair his damaged urethra, we had another three years of him in great health before he finally succumbed to renal failure in April. This shattered my heart - I've lost cats before, but Spike was well and truly bonded to me and after losing my Dad it was a horrible twist of fate. Oz initially coped well, but then became very clingy and showed signs of loneliness as both hubby and I work full time. Sooo...

Wesley - 2yrs

Some time after we lost Spike and realised that Oz would like a companion, we started looking around rescue shelters. Wes was very much a case of love at first sight and that 'I know you're mine' feeling that I'm sure a lot of you know! His story is all too familiar, he was found dumped in a field, skinny and scared. His fur had been hacked off leaving just tufts. Pleased to report that over time his fur has grown completely back and he's a beautiful long haired boy that still has a long way to go in trusting humans. The vet discovered his back end was covered in scar tissue, but we don't know what happened to him, neither do his rescuers. I don't like to think about that, to be honest. He's safe now and that's what matters.

Shilo - 6mnths

Shilo was a happy coincidence. Despite tolerating each other's company, Oz and Wes weren't bonding, and Oz was still a little miserable. After talking to our vet and other cat people I know, they suggested his loving side wasn't being indulged (he loved to snuggle for hours with Spike). I saw a picture of Shilo on a rescue shelter's Facebook page and BOOM. Love. (Can you tell I've got a thing for black and white moggies?). Shilo has completed our little family so perfectly it's almost a Disney film. She and Wes will play for hours, and then she'll snuggle up with Oz for a good ol' washing and a snooze. She's a typical kitten - extremely boisterous and rather naughty.

So, that's our little family!

Nice to meet you all :)

to TCS! That's an adorable trio you have there.I'm partial to black or black & white moggies, too.

Although the majority of our members seem to come from North America, there are plenty from the UK, Australia and other parts of the world.

Welcome to TCS!

I'm so sorry to hear about your father.

It looks like you're also a black cat fan!  I especially love the pic of OZ, draped over the chair. And your Wes looks like my dear, missed Smudge.
