So I have had my kitties since I found them a week after their birth under a porch stair.  One of them was a sickly little guy that took a lot to bring to health but he by far is my favorite and he and his sister are both struck with a strange disease.  They lived with my parents up to about 6 months ago when they moved in with my girlfriend and myself.  These kitties are about 6 years old.  About a month or so ago, we noticed both kitties have weird things going on with their tongues, except both appear completely different.  Kitty number one has a large "growth" under the right side of her tongue...it looks like the rest of her tongue tissue but its just a large bulge under the surface.  It doesnt really feel hard to the touch but its difficult to even get in there to try and feel it.  The second kitty has what appears to be an ulcer or "skin tag" growing on the top of his tongue, closer to the tip.  It started as a small pink mole and has now started to grow into a tower shape out of the tongue...I know it sounds crazy but this is what I am dealing with.  I have taken both kitties to different vets and no one seems to know *** is going on.  They have been tested via blood and other standard methods, but in order to test the tissue of the growths each doctor wanted to put the kitties to sleep and what not.  The issue I have with that is that it is harmful to the kitties, it costs a lot of money, and if it turns out to be something that needs surgery then they have to put the kitties back to sleep again (or so I would assume the tests would take some time).  Additionally I fear what the vets may deem necessary during surgery may be more than I'm willing to put my kitties through...I don't want their tongues removed or even partially removed =(  I just want to know what the hell these growths are and how I can get rid of them.

Here are the facts:

Kitties were found in the wild under a porch

Kitties eat and drink fine

Kitties clean themselves and use the bathroom fine (except the girl kittie with the large growth on the side of the tongue doesnt seem to get all the crap out of her paws)

Kitties play, climb, run, sleep and appear to be perfectly fine

We noticed the issues after kitties moved in with us...this apartment is new to us, we keep it extremely clean without using crazy chemicals, but it was really grimy before we moved in...an elderly gentleman owned it and probably never ever cleaned the floors and walls...we did a deep clean and I have a cleaning service come through every 2 weeks.

Could this be caused by something in our apartment?

Could this be in their blood?

Could this be cancer?

Has anyone experienced what I speak of?

Additionally the boy kitty and another sister of his (still living with my parents...without tongue issues) both get "Kitty Acne" from time to time which vets havnt been able to figure out either...they are small scabs that appear around the nose, chin, and sometimes around the eyes and ears....could this be related?

I love these cats to death and I will spend every last dime if I have to but I really don't want to put them through more stress than I need to if it can be solved by simply moving them back to my parents or finding a new apartment.

Do you use plastic bowls? Many cats get acne from plastic bowls. If you do I would get new bowls and there is a good chance the acne will clear up.

The tongue problem is tough. Have you changed anything besides the house? Same food? It could be cancer but since they both got it after you moved I'm thinking it's more likely chemicals.

Can your kitties get to any cleaning chemicals? If so I'd move them. Chances are your cleaning service doesn't use the same cleaner as your parents. Would it be possible to hold off on the cleaning service for a lityle while and just clean with the same stuff your parents use? If it clears up then you'll know one of the cleaning products is causing it.

I haven't had an issue like this. My cat Peanut has allergies that cause his mouth to swell, but not the tongue. Hope your kitties are better soon.

Ok, looked some on the internet and I'm changing my answer. I would still stop the new cleaners just in case. But everything I was seeing said that if it is cancer it can move quickly. I think you need to assume the worst and plan from there. They will most likely remove the entire mass for the biopsy. You kitties will be sore and you may have to help them eat for a bit.

I'm a need to know kind of person and would probably do the biopsy so we knew what was going on. I can't say what you should do, but I'm sure you'll get some more experienced advice soon.

Viruses can cause tongue ulcers, so can Rodent ulcers which is an allergic reaction (also goes by a much longer name).  Rodent ulcers can form on the tongue, roof of the mouth or lips. A prednisone injection will take care of it.   Rodent ulcers has no relationship to rodents of any kind, it is just an allergy to something.

Ok so the deal with the cleaning service is that my mom owns the service company...so they use the same products my parents use at home...more or less.  I have done more research on pictures (kinda gross) and found that atleast the boy cat 99% looks like its a rodent ulcer.  I have searched every other type of disease like FCV and Cancer in pictures for hours and couldnt find anything that looked similar to what was in his mouth.  This morning I found a picture of a stomach ulcer which looks almost identical.  As for the other kitty...it almost seems like she has the same rodent ulcer but slightly on her lips near her nose...its the most minimal of symptoms now that I look at it...but this might be what is affecting both...does anyone know if there are any home treatments I can try to bring down their symptoms?
