Hello, there is a population of feral cats living in South Park, PA.  They are fairly well looked after by volunteers bringing food, etc.  Two days ago I was walking on the other side of the park and I found two kittens living in a large ground burrow.  I went and got them some cat food and a water dish.  This burrow is almost impossible to find, if you didn't know it was there.  And now today, the Park has closed both access routes to the roads that lead up to where this burrow i located,  I had to hike up there today to feed them.  It has been very cold and I haven't seen the cats for two days.  I am also concerned that my putting food in the burrow for them  might draw raccoon or other animals that would hurt the kittens.

I called the Park and she gave me an earful about how the cats are not their responsibility. I called downtown to the Park office and they told me to call the Humane Society on the North Shore.  I left a message with them on Friday and nobody called me back.

I am unable to look after these kittens for too long of a time and would appreciate some help in finding someone to help trap them.  I have no job or money.  I work as a caretaker for my room and board.

I want to point out that these kittens are not in the area where the other feral cats are.   I did speak to one woman who was walking her dog and she said last week she heard kittens crying loudly as if they were starving.  When I saw them they were not crying out, so maybe someone else has fed them, but I didn't see any signs of food dishes or footprints in the area where the kittens are.  I don't think anyone else knows about these kittens,

First, thank you for worrying about them.  Can you contact the people who are currently working with the cats in the park?  These may be kittens from a litter of a cat they have been unable to trap and spay.

Definitely contact them or any other TNR group in your area.  They may have the means and resources to help.

I agree with Ondine. This was my reaction too.  It is the easiest and most natural to do.

Play it by ear thereafter.    IF they refuse.

I agree with your suspcion, probably best not to leave the food in immediate  vicinity of their burrow.  Especielly not if they are alone.

How old did they seemed to be?

Are you willing to adopt and foster them, if somebody helps you with the practical details of catching them etc?

Tx for caring!

Good luck!
