Hiya, im new to this, iv just had a new kitten, she's 9 weeks old and she was dumped outside, when she was found she was really thin, iv had her for 3 days now and she seemed fine on her first day. Although she doesnt play, and shes seems quite scared of toys. She seems to be eating less and sleeping more. Shes still quite thin, im just worried if shes getting enough nutrition and if there is anything els I can do for her. Thankyou x

I think a trip to the vet as soon as possible is needed.  She most certainly does have parasites.  At some point she also needs to get started on her kitten shots.  Multiple small meals of a high quality wet and free feeding of a quality kibble is the best way to feed a kitten.  I think she is a bit old for the KMR.  If she isn't eating the wet very well you could try mixing a little KMR with it, it may entice her to eat the wet.  Being both young and not used to eating well she will probably only eat a small amount at a time.

Hiya!

I would first  and foremost take her to the vet for a check up. As she is a stray, you do not know her history, or if had any vaccinations. There could be something wrong with her because of this. She could need worming or have flea's - anything really. The let would be best to rule out anything or help her if needed.

As for the timidness - I would give it time if it's not medical. Again, you don't know her history and she could've been mistreated, even at her young age. 3 days isn't too long for a little thing to regain some trust in people and also get to know all the smells and sounds of a home. She should tho, as an ideal, be playing. Kittens so young tend to have lots and lots of bouts of energy and play, followed by a nap or two. A little bit of food often I think too is best. What are you feeding her? I would suggest some kitten wet food as it's slightly higher in fat - perfect for a growing kitten.

Good luck and I hope your new friend is better soon.

KMR is kitten milk replacement.  You can get it at pet stores and also in the pet section of many super markets and stores like KMart.  It's usually used for bottle feeding orphans and weaning kittens, that's why I think she is a bit old for it.  A little mixed with her wet food may entice her to eat.  It might also help with digestion.  Just as with people who haven't eaten for awhile she may need food that is very easy to digest for awhile.

Ahh, I guess you're in the UK with the mention of Felix? In that case, KMR is available at amazon - i don't suppose supermarkets will stock it. Sometimes too that a tiny bit of human food - something strong smelling can kick start an appetite. Try something like a bit of wafer thin ham, or a tiny bit of tuna. Chicken is best tho, but not as strong smelling. If my cat's feeling fed up or fussy, I give him some roast chicken and it always goes down a treat & normal eating starts after that! The first two aren't too good for cats, so I would really limit the amount to a taster or two. Also, try warming the kitten food a bit to release more of an aroma.

Do you know much about your kitten then? Ie, did the cattery worm her? Catteries may be riddled with flea's and other things like worms as there are so many living together.    It's just with the lack of playing and the sleeping more makes me thing that there may be something more wrong than just a lack of appetite. I do think a MOT at the vets is the way to go.

That's fab news!! You may be able to hold off on the KMR then if normal grub is doing the trick? It's quite pricey, at least that's what I thought!!  Anyway, long may the eating continue and good luck to you both :-)
