I've been ill for a few days and not really up to cooking or eating, but I was still hungry... and I found myself going through all sorts of delicious meal ideas in my head for when I was up to it.

So I thought I'd ask:

What's one of the best meals you've ever had, at home or in a restaurant?

(memorable in terms of the FOOD!
  )

It was at a local restaurant quite a few years back now so I can't remember everything about it. It was some kind of steak on sweet potato mash with veggies and it was dripping with a most delicious jus. It tasted fantastic but it also looked amazing. When it came to the table everyone went wow! Like I said it was years ago. We still eat out with the same people and we still always say we wish we could have another meal like that one. Everyone had a different meal and everyone's meal was perfect.

Goodness, I've been lucky to have had a lot of memorable meals.  But if you take out atmosphere, company, etc.and base it just on the food - I think my favorite was one which was fairly simple in terms of what it was, but so well prepared it elevated it to a level I didn't know existed before that.  The name of the restaurant was 9 Jones, in New York City, at well, 9 Jones Street.  I think it was the early - mid 90's when I ate there.  This was a time when there was an explosion of good restaurants popping up all over the USA and of chefs becoming well known (that same year, I also ate at Mario Batali's first place, a little tiny hole in the wall, "Po", a block away).  9 Jones is long gone now - but the chef was one of the up and comers at the time.  It was "home cooking" kind of food.

I had a pan roasted chicken breast, bone in, skin on, that just blew my mind in it's perfection along with sublime side dishes.  I mean, who knew mashed potatoes could be gourmet fare?  I never knew about the pan roasting cooking method at that point in my life, and eating that one meal totally changed my way of preparing food at home and how I looked at food in general.  Actually it kind of ruined me lol.  I can't say I became a food snob (I still eat fast food sometimes - I'm not above it at all) but it did make me very aware of the quality of food everywhere I went from that point onward.

Anyway - don't get me even started on great meals.  I'll wax poetic if you let me!

Whenever we go to Niagara-on-the-Lake, we always have dinner at the Olde Angel Inn. They have some of the best prime rib with Yorkshire pudding that I've had...I just love Yorkshire pudding and it's something I don't often make at home. It's just delicious at the Angel Inn. (And, of course, the ghost on the first floor always helps with the ambiance.)

Prime rib was one of my best meals ever. It was just at the Milestones restaurant up the road, so not really fancy, but oh man my dinner was delicious. I wanted to lick the plate clean!
