I have an eleven year old cat. She’s always been quite small and has groomed as much as other cats I have had. Recently she has stopped grooming completely, her tongue is always sticking out. She drools excessively and has very bad breath. She hardly eats at all. I try giving her canned cat food instead of the dry food she has eaten all of her life, but although she initially liked it, she takes a few bites and stops eating it. Same with milk—she starts drinking it hungrily and then stops very shortly afterwards. She seems to forget that there is food and milk and keeps meowing like she is hungry.

The other night I woke up and found that she had vomited blood in her bed. That was a one time occurrence and has not

been repeated.

I suspected that she had something wrong with her teeth or gums, but she doesn’t let me get anywhere near her mouth.

She is extremely inactive and seems forgetful.

She’s turning into a little bag of bones and I would like to do something to help her feel better. I feel sad and helpless to see her deteriorate like this. I imagine that she is in pain as well.

Is there anything I can do to help her? Is it time to put her down? Any suggestions?

I would really recommend a vet visit. There may be a very treatable cause to these issues, but without a vet it's impossible to know.

I agree, she needs a vet soon before complications like hepatic lipidosis sets in.
