I have a cat from a shelter who is about 2 years old now and a few weeks ago she seemed to be in heat and she is an indoor and an outdoor cat, so as i was told she was fixed i didn't think anything of it, but recently i have noticed how round she has become. She has always been in great shape not fat at all, but now she wants to be fed constantly. I feed her and not five minutes later she is pestering me for more food, she has become really affectionate which she has never really been, and sleeps A LOT has no interest in going outside anymore and just sleeps and lays with me all day. So she has almost all the "symptoms" EXCEPT that only her 2 very back nipples seem to be "pinking up". I can not afford to take her to the vet just to find out or not especially if it turns out to be a false pregnancy (or just my imagination), but that's supposed to be really rare in cats, so has any one had this happen to them or have any suggestions on how else you would know if she is pregnant.

I have looked for any signs of worms but haven't seen anything, yet. it's highly unlikely as since she is outside a lot ( or has been before this) she has been dewormed regularly.

How long have you had her? How long ago exactly did she seem to be in heat?
I have had her for about a yeah and a half maybe less. She seemed to be in heat i think about 4 or 5 weeks ago.

If she's been an indoor/outdoor cat the entire time, she really should have gotten pregnant before now if she's not spayed :dk:. It would just be super weird if she's been avoiding tomcats for an entire year and a half. I guess all you can do is keep an eye on her; if she's pregnant she'll give birth in 4-5 weeks. If she seems sick you should call the vet.

The eating and wanting to stay inside could just be preparing for winter. If she's spayed she shouldn't have a false pregnancy either. If she does end up being pregnant, make sure you let the shelter (if you got her from a shelter) know so they can look at what happened and see what went wrong.

Yeah i know, it does seem unlikely, hopefully if she is not pregnant she is just fat. But, can't keep myself from hoping that she may be, i know that there are already way to many cats in the world but it would be kind of nice. I did get her from a shelter, the people thought i was nuts for wanting the "psycho cat".

If you truly  think she is showing symptoms of pregnancy and this keeps on for another week or so and she keeps getting bigger, it really wouldn't be a bad idea to check with a vet to find out what is going on.

I think it sounds pretty remote that you would have had her a year and she only went in heat and got pregnant now.   but there are a few cats who have very infrequent heats.    so it's not impossible

But normally the nipples would be pink and more prominent by now.

If it turns out that she is not pregnant but just fat ,  then you can just focus on getting her back to a healthy weight.  There is some great information on feline nutrition, including how to help cats safely lose weight,  on a veterinarian's website  http://catinfo.org      &  also you can discuss it, or search for previous discussions in the nutrition forum here.

If she's not pregnant but you still like the idea of raising kittens,  you could volunteer with a shelter or rescue group  to foster a pregnant  cat or a mom cat with new kittens  who would do better in a home environment.
