My Persian cat Gizmo is 16 whom I have had since he was a baby and he has very similar symptoms to Hunter. Between July and now his weight loss was rather dramatic so I took him to the vets about a month ago, they told me he had a large mass in his stomach which was more than likely to be cancer due to the massive weight loss as when they weighed him he was half his body weight even though he ate well and was still functioning as normal. The vet told me that they could operate but this could lead to massive bleeding and if that happened it would be advisable to put him to sleep while he was under or due to his age the other option was to allow him to end his days at home with palative care and to give what he needed till the time came which I choose to do under vet supervision with weekly check ups and injections of steriods and antibiotics to help. Today Gizzy was at the vets for his regular check up and was told that he had developed jaundice and that the decline would be quick, so I decided to bring him home tonight for the family to say there goodbyes as Gizmo is going back to the vets tomorrow morning to be put to sleep, although he is not in pain he can not be comfortable and it is now the time that the vet said I would know and Gizzy would show to me that the time was right to let him go and even though it hurts it is the kindest thing to do for him now. So for all you cat and animal lovers and owners, that extra month we have had with Gizzy has been worth it and we are getting to say are goodbyes, so to everyone as what Hunters owner asked at the start of this forum when do you know its time as my vet said you will know and the cat will also tell you in it's own way as Gizzy has me with the look in his eyes, but if you can get that extra bit time without them suffering I would highly recommend it and Gizzy we will never ever forget you night night my little baby.

So, so sorry about your little fur baby. We've all been there and it's the hardest thing to do when you realise their time has come. My heart breaks for you and there's nothing I can say to help except that I am thinking about you!
