Hello all! I rescued a kitten about a month ago with a 'clean bill of health' who within 2 weeks had a parasite, fleas, and most fun of all, ringworm. He's about 11 weeks old and was diagnosed 2 weeks ago yesterday (and with culture results formally last week), though I think he's had it for 2 1/2 - 3 weeks. He has been quarantined (as best as possible) for about 2 weeks total. I have been bathing him twice a week in KetoChlor and he started oral intraconazole today. I live in a small apartment and my roommate got it about a week ago. I have a few questions --

-- He is a fiery ball of energy and just wants to play! Can I take him outside on a leash and let him play a little without making it worse? I read that sun helps kill the spores?

-- Also how long until I can let him out again?? He just wants to play and I feel so bad having to keep him in a smaller space. I don't want him and my roommate to keep passing this back and forth. I am cleaning like crazy!!

-- I have not got anything yet (knock on wood). If I was going to get it, would I have it already??

Thanks!!

Hello and welcome to TCS.

I don't think taking him outside will do any harm. He is under treatment and I doubt will come into contact to any spores outside.

The length of time before he is no longer contagious depends on how he is responding to treatment. It takes approx a month if he is being treated aggressively and no recontamination occurs. He will need follow up cultures done to determine if he is fully clear.
