hello i have 2 jack russels both currently 3 and from different litters. one bitch and one dog. Chloe had a litter of pups at 6 months by Elvis and we never really got her fully house trained as she became a young mother. we kept one of the pups for  a year. so our 3 young dogs were all in the house at different stages of house training.  eventually we were force to re home the pup at 1 year as he and his dad Elvis were fighting for the top dog position in our house and amungst each other. elvis and chloe never really were fully housed trained. elvis would scent mark but chloe would be a full blown relief . we have started back to basic last thing at night and first thing in the morning with loads of praise and treats for each trip out side. she understands that when we put her out its time for a wee. the problem we are faced with is that she pees in her own bed nearly every night. they both sleep in the kitchen and have access the the garden via a dog flap 24/7 but she still soils her bed. he is good and goes outside but the poor guy has to live with her soiling his bed too. i had her in the crate but she just pees there all the time. i took her to the vet for a check up and all seems fine. vets and pet shop employees keep telling me the basic house training steps  but they are not working. please please please what should we do.

I wonder if she's marking her territory - is Elvis harassing her?  If they aren't fixed yet, he may be wanting to mate and she may not be interested.

Or he may just be a top dog type of guy and it is upsetting her.

If you have ruled out a urinary tract infection or other illness, the starting from scratch with potty training sounds like the most logical step (after having them both fixed).

Also -check the size of her crate.  I've heard that if it is too big, it gives her room to wee and still have a dry place.  You may have to get a smaller crate and train her that way.

Good luck!

thanks for your advice. she has been neutered but he has not. she is the boss with toys and bedding and does not back down when ever food is involved .when ever he wants to mate she puts him in his place. so she calls the shots generally. its when ever we put the blanket down in her bed at night or during the day upon our return she has pee'd on it. they always have access to the garden from our kitchen which is very small too.  why the blanket is my question? thank you for any advice

If you haven't washed the blanket with a good enzyme cleaner, she is still smelling pee on it and we re-pee to strengthen her scent.  You can just replace it, too, unless there's a reason you want to keep it.

Have you seen her peeing on it?  What I mean are you sure she's doing it as a controlled behavior and not incontinence?  It can be really hard to housetrain a dog who has always gone wherever they want, does she go in the crate no matter how often she's taken out?  If there's bedding or not?

Could be incontinence. It's common in spayed females and older females and those who have had pups (OK, the female urinary system is a bit leaky sometimes no matter what :tongue2:). Does she ever leave a puddle in a place she sleeps in during the day? If it is incontinence, there are vet-prescribed pills that can help. Also some natural remedies like alfalfa or Homeopet Incontinence Relief (Google "natural spay incontinence remedies"). You can put a bedwetting pad (or puppy housetraining pads) on her bed to minimize laundry.

they never pee in the house when im around but do go out side by themselves when im around. if left unattended for a few hours its party time with pee everywhere so i dont think incontinence is an issue . for this reason they are bound to the kitchen while we are out to work . they get into my bed at the weekend and are fine but she did pee twice over the years while unattended  . when i go for a shower and came back to a steaming duvet . that has not happened for over a year. they do not pee in my van as they ride up front or my car when they are in the boot/ trunk. just the house in the same spots generally . we use odor eliminator and biological washing powder to mop the floor. recently we've had enough as we are getting strict and introducing the crate again where she singly soils her own bed. he is not in the crate and is fine. is she marking her territory . shes is the boss with him and if any bullying is done its by her. she is a lovely affectionate dog that wets the bed and how can i put it right. thank you

All I can think of is to make it more rewarding to go outside than inside. Go out with her and reward heavily when she pees outside. Take her out multiple times a day and reward every single time she pees out there. Take away all absorbent materials in the area they stay in while you're gone, to minimize peeing. What you're trying to do is establish a habit of going outside. Once she's well established with that you can gradually reduce the number of times you go outside with her and give her bed back. But give it at least 3 weeks after she seems to have gotten the hang of it because that's how long it takes to establish a habit.
