My cat has been acting normal but I recently noticed her paw pads are very spongy and squishy. The base is redder than usual and slightly wrinkled. Is this cause for immediate action or do I need to simply change something?

This does not sound "normal" to me.  At all!  Could she/he have walked thru something caustic?  I don't know what you could change, and also don't know what it could be, especially if it doesn't seem to bother your little one, but it just doesn't sound right.  Maybe you should at the very least CALL your Vet and mention this to them and see what they say.

I would be worried if I noticed that.  it isn't normal and I would definitley want to call my vet to talk it through.  Does your cat go out doors at all?  It could have been injured in some way, like mrsgreenjeens says with something caustic or perhaps an alergy, or maybe some kind of fungal infection or a virus.  Other health history and age might be relevant too.  If you have to wait for an appointment it might be worth taking regular photographs if you can, to see it it changes at all.  That might be worth the vet knowing. Also if there are any signs of pain, or other indications your cat might not be well.  Hope you find out what's causing it and your cat is well.
