We all know about silver linings, how sometimes things that seem bad at first turn out to be good, or at least something positive comes out of the experience. You know you might be glad your first husband took off one day, if he hadn't you'd never married the love of your life. Or how some small delay averted disaster, that sort of thing.

I've been thinking lately and it seems that good things usually have a bad side, too. Take for example, physical beauty, for sure it gives advantages in life, and opens doors. We generally treat very good-looking people better, and we are nicer to them, they tend to get the jobs. But look what happens when the physical looks fade, for example, we've all seen the celebrities who go to great lengths to try to remain looking beautiful, it can be really sad.

Beautiful people have always been told how wonderful they are, so if that's all they have, they lose everything when they lose their looks. Seems to me better to be a pretty normal looking person who has to rely on all his/her resources to get anywhere.

What about having money? There are negatives there, too. Do your friends like you for your money? There's no way to know. Are your kids safe or is some nut going to kidnap one for ransom? Better get a good alarm system to protect all your expensive stuff, too.

Today's QOTD is, what do you think about this? Have you found it to be true?

This is not an easy question to answer but I'll try.  I am neither beautiful or rich but have lived a full happy and sometimes very sad  life.  I do agree that beautiful people are treated better than average looking people, it's really a shame but unfortunately so true.

There are some things we can change if we need too and other things we have no control over such as health problems.

Is there a silver lining in life, I think that's up to you.

Ooh, a thoughtful question for the day.  I tend to agree it is up to the individual.

I can think about my own life and circumstance, loose all hope and give up thinking no more about it and blaming it on all sorts of stuff, or I can try and make some sense of it and see if I can learn or move on in some way.  From challenges and bad times can come learning and appreciation or strength.

I can look at other people and wonder how they manage to survive and get through the aparently horrendous experiences they have with a positive outlook on their life and yet see other people crumble under what would seem to be far less horrific circumstances.

I can look at my self then look at others and spend all my time wishing I had what they had, or that I need more. Never happy or content.   Or I can look at what I have and who I am and value and treasure it and see if I am making the most of my oportunites, what ever they are.

The more people believe in silver linings, the more likely it seems that they will find them.

Absolutely! I can look back on most of my experiences in life and say that I am better for it. I also believe that it is individual too. I am continually amazed at the few half-empty glasses I know and talk to. I also agree that people who look for silver linings generally find them.

A good way to look at life.
