Hey guys, first time here. I have a 12 week old male kitten, and have had him for around 3 weeks. I live in an apartment at school, but I am going home for my Thanksgiving break. I am bringing my kitten home with me, as I want to be able to care for him and I have an appointment to get him fixed next Tuesday. I have a golden retriever and a chihuaua at home, who haven't interacted with cats in some time but are generally friendly.

Basically, what can I do to make sure my little friend is comfortable and as stress and pain free this weekend both before and after the neutering surgery? Thanks a lot!

You will probably be surprised at how quickly he recuperates from the surgery, which is very quick, especially in male kittens that young.  In my own personal experience, including rescue work, the male kittens usually seem fine after a day and a half or even faster.

I would make sure you bring things from the house that have the scent he's used to, like his bed, blanket, a shirt of yours, toys, etc.

I would also keep him in a room closed off from the other animals for at least the first few days.  Once you see he's doing fine you can try to introduce them, but keep it simple and one thing at a time.

The incision for neutering a male kitten that age is tiny - at least it was on the litter I had early neutered.  It was less than 1/4 inch, and they showed no signs whatsoever of being bothered by it.
