My little 7 year old Bella has been diagnosed with Kidney Disease and I am out of my mind about this! I will do and try anything to help her. She refuses to eat the prescription food. I give her a 1/4th of a tablet of pepcid ac twice a day. Always has fresh water which she does drink however she is losing weight and last doctors visit results were bun down to 85 from 97 (after doing sub Q fluids 3 times a week) but creatine went up from low 2's to low 3's. From everything I have read she is in stage 3. I dont know if this right or not? I am going out of my mind to do whatever I can to help her. If I have missed anything at all please advise. Sorry I got off on a little rant, back to my question.... Have you heard of willard water and or tried it? Does it work?
Thanks
Bella's Mom aka Nancy

ps
She is entered in the cat in high places photo contest! My avatar shows her brother Duke hugging her after a long day at the vet that ended in her diagnosis. Worst day EVER!!!

I am so sorry to hear about Bella.  I, too, have a kidney cat, so can definitely commiserate
.  Plus I lost my soul cat to kidney disease last year
.

Anyway, to answer your question, I have never heard of Willard Water.  Where do you hear about it?

From what you are saying, it sounds like maybe she is getting food that is too high in phosphorus, since her creatinine is rising.  Most cats to not like the kidney foods, but there are alternatives.  Have you seen this food chart?  http://www.catinfo.org/docs/FoodChartPublic9-22-12.pdf  It's for canned food, which is MUCH better for any cat, but particularly for kidney cats, and is in alphabetical order by brand of cat food.  I use the Dry Matter % columns, then look for foods with "Phos DM" under 1.0.  I also look for high protein, pretty high fat and low carbs, but that's just me
.  Now, worse case scenario, if she absolutely loves a food that is really high in phosphorus, you can add some cooked egg whites to it, which, be increasing the volume and protein, brings down the phosphorus, or you can add phosphorus binders to her diet, or both.  AND, if she is eating kibble, we can help you transition her to canned food.

Have you seen this website:  http://www.felinecrf.org/index.htm  This is my "go to" for pretty much anything kidney related.  It's pretty comprehensive, so just take one section at a time and start reading
I've referred to it for 4 years now, and probably have not read it all yet.

Sadly, you are not alone with your Bella.  There are many of us here with the same issue, and we're here to help as best we can.  At least it sounds like you already have giving sub-q's down
.  For most people, that's the hardest part.

Thank you for your kind word. I love your term soul cat. That is exactly what she is for me and this diagnosis is beyond devastating. For the life of me I can't remember where I first heard about Willard water but I've gone and ordered it. I have no idea if it will help or not bit what have we got to lose. I have been to both the websites you've listed and I am currently trying to find something she will eat. Problem is that her brother is a big boy and will eat what she doesn't. I'm at work and have no way of knowing who got what. I can't separate them because I tried that. Bella will refuse to eat anything at all if not accompanied. Honestly I can't make this stuff up. As much of a hassle as that is it is just SO HER to do that. The Pepcid AC and putting her food on an inverted bowl seem to be working. Right now she is eating science diet tasty tuna. Seems to be working. Keep your fingers crossed And please include her in your prayers. Thanks for the support and letting me rant.

I used Willard Water when some meds made my cat ravenously hungry and gave her a weirdly swollen abdomen. It worked for her (I also used algae tablets). I found these through the articles at www.littlebigcat.com (no affiliation, the holistic vet there just gave me the only sound advice I've ever gotten in my kitty's lifetime so I'm sharing the wealth).
